Help Re: 6x9s
Just wondering what is the difference in mounting different brands of 6x9 in your car, and how do you know ahead of time what will and what won't fit?
For instance, crutchfield says some will fit/some won't, but doesn't tell you why it won't fit. IE. it says the pioneer sps-609 won't fit, but the pioneer spr-69c will fit. These two look almost identical, and have the same dimensions listed! why wouldn't one fit?
kinda convienient that it's the expensive one that fits and the cheap one that doesn't.. hmmm.
anyways, how do you know?
thanks,

Did you mean Alpine instead of Pioneer? The type R SPR-69C (I would think) have a deeper profile than the type S SPS-609.
Also the tweets on the type R's stick up higher than the type S

Alpine type R 6 x 8's dont fit worth a crap in my Ford. Neither did some old Phoenix Gold speakers. Both required drilling new hole and neither fully covered the speaker hole.

I meant any 6x9 speaker will fit in a 6x9 hole. If one 6x9 fits so should any other one. With the exception of mounting depth. Obviously a 6x8 hole would require some work to fit a 6x9 speaker...

do 6x9's really make a big difference? well, lets say more for a minivan application. maybe more in the vicinity of the front passenger and driver doors below the arm rests? dont really care much for rear fill at this point but ive been thinking about soo many plans for this slowly dying car of mine lol. if this is a good idea ad becomes one of my many plans, i will attempt a DIY project for myself!

I just used the Fords as an example. More than a few 6 x 8 " speakers dont fit right in the Ford 6x 8" speaker holes As another example Energy 6.5" speakers wont fit in a a lot of 6.5" car door holes without a bit of grinding.
