Question

so here i am sitting at work one day minding my own business when someone from one of my competing stores walks in to drop off a part i had loaned them for an install. so we end up chatting for a while and the converstation ends with a pretty interesting offer for a job. now dont get me wrong i do like my job alot, the only things lacking is a decently outfitted shop and a little more freedom and the paycheck is a little on the low end. the shop i work in now has tons of potential but it just kinda seems like my boss isnt quite as serious about the dept as i am.

so this place tosses out an offer for a salary position plus commision and labour, they are gonna pay for my cell bill, give me a black berry, give me a demo system for my car and all the freedom to run with the department that i could ever want. and they have a wicked shop with all the essentials available at anytime.

sounds like a decent offer its a helluva lot more than i am getting now, and i like the idea of know just how much money i'll be getting all the time and that is going to be a decent sum, so now i wont have to borrow money to get to work halfway thru the month.

so my question is if you were in my shoes what way would you lean. i'm kinda stuck cause i like where i work now theres just alot of things that could make it better and this other place seems to have those things that i'm looking for. but i also feel obligated to the company i am with now and would hate to be a turncoat cause i think i am gonna loose my installer soon here and then if i left the store would be kinda hooped. so what would you guys do.

Regaardless of bleeding company colors you have to do whats right for you and yours. If the extra money is necessary then you know what you need to do. But always give your employer a shot of matching the offer and give him plenty of notice. Be sure and let him know you weren't actively searching for new employment. This offer/opportunity dropped in your lap.

Trust me...any time is a bad timeing to leave your place of employment. However if you don't make the decision someone else will and you may regret it down the road. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Talent is sought after in this line of business and people worth their wieght should be paid accordingly. Some of us are quite heavy

If you work for Jr. (I think you do) let him know of the offer that is on the table and see if he is willing to match it. Other than that do what is in your best interest, if the other offer is good, take it, just do not burn any bridges on the way.

No job is secure. You could get tossed tomorrow. Who knows. And the reasons may have nothing to do with your performance. I'd say you should go where you have the ability to your wings the most in this field. And money is important as well, but look down the road a ways. What's going to be better for you and your career in the industry. Where do you see yourself say in ten years...... and what do you need to get there ???

On the flip side, loyalty is a lost virtue these days.
