Red face

its to bad. car audio gear is becoming outrageous at some places in canada. maybe companies like hifonics should come in and offer something at reasonable prices. just my two cents.

Distributor is done for Canada. The Hifonics are nice but its all the expenses that are added that kills the end cost. See what happens is the distributor has to build in all kinds of money for warranty issues, repairs customer servicing ect. As the US car audio companies dont want to have to deal with the Canadian issues of shipping and so on. That amp though it came to you at a good price would be roughly three time the cost retail to cover all the issues. Canadian distributors also have to build in a buffer so that if the US $ rises all of a sudden they they are still making profit. Cause its cheap right now the Canadian consumer is making out great by purchasing US. But when it comes to a service issue then the consumer loses by purchasing through the US. US companies almost all the time make the consumer pay shipping both ways and then customs sometime recharges duties. Then you have to file a claim.

it definately is a crap shoot when you purchase equipment from the u.s, and who i am to argue with your statement since being a distributor urself is your area of expertise, but when i frequent some audio shops in my area from time to time and i see a spiffed out porsche out front of an audio shop and a SEE the prices inside.....well i begin to wonder.

could be wrong about associating the sports car with the owner, perhaps it was a customer can`t say for sure but the little red flag begins to pop up.
from my personal experiences i found most of the gear in these shops bordering outrageous. if you compare prices of gear with u.s competitors, some of the equipment is half the price or even less. WHY? is it as you said about shipping costs, warranty issues, and building buffers, or is it profit?

god bless the man for making a buck for himself and his business but if i can save a buck, better in my pocket than in his. over the past 20 years of my-person being in and out of car audio i have seen so many shops go under, and even still in these days of car audio reaching new heights you still see shops closing up, or moving out of car, and into home theatre (blahhh, f#ckin hate home theatre).

so now enters a new dawn in the age of car audio. the on-line distribs in canada. i hope that as a result of this you and yours are able to make some decent scratch and save us some as well.

steve from smartass (another plug), for the few hundred bucks i spent with you last year, you have given me back a thousand in CONTINUAL customer service. to you sir go my kudos and wishes for your own personal spiffed out porsche. DON`T BE A DUMBASS, BUY FROM SMARTASS.

oh yeah the hifonics thing, well if my brutus holds up when i get it installed than +1 for me, but if its junk......let the flaming "i told you so`s begin".

james.

I won't get into the online shopping debate...again, but from my point of view, your risk is relatively minimal. Warranty is typically one year, as long as your equipment lasts longer than that, then it's a non-issue. Secondly, some manufacturers, Alpine, won't warranty anything unless it's professionally installed...that's useless to me as I do my own installs. Thirdly, some brands are just not available in Canada, Hifonics for example, which means you have to buy it online. As far as Hifonics goes, I've had a BX-1205 for 1.5 years running at 1 0hm with no problems at all. It was purchased online for 285.00 canadian including shipping, exchange, brokerage(canada post), and taxes. That's a hell of a deal for a brand new, brand name, 1200 watt amp.

maybe its time some distributer should take a serious look at hifonics products to bring them into canada, or perhaps hifonics is not interested to make the move north.

Actually there are a lot of people who had problems with the old series vii and viii hifonics. My best friend blew his zeus 3 times powering a single JBL 15" sub. The sub lasted, and is still being used today. This was late 80's early 90's, not sure what gen it was.
