Hooking up my Amp to my Subwoofer...

Hey,

So I currently have a Kicker ZX650.4 Amplifier. So its a 4 Channel Amplifier.
Heres the manual if you need it... http://www.kicker.com/sites/default/files/2008%20ZX%20350%20650%20850-4%20d01%20web.pdf

Anyways, I have two channels currently connected to my front speakers.
So I have 2CH left, but this is where I become confused.

I'm pairing it up with a Kicker 8" 09S8C4 Subwoofer. Which runs at 4Ohms, dual voice coils, and has an RMS rating of 300W.

So if I bridge my wiring from my AMP, how do I connect it to the subwoofer? Would I connect it to one voice coil, and then connect the other voice coil to itself? I believe thats call parallel wiring, but I don't know much about it.

Sorry for any confusion, and thanks up front for the help!

ok, in this case, your amp is rated at 120 watts x 4 into 4ohms and your sub has 2 voice coils that are 4ohms each. So, just run one channel to each coil which will deliver 120 watts into each coil or 240 watts total (more than enough for that sub to work very well...on top of that, the kicker amps are usually under rated, so you'll probably get pretty close to 300 watts rms in real power). You can not bridge 2 channles to get 325 watts as that output is only rated at 4ohms, and your sub in parallel would yield a 2 ohm load (too low for your amp in bridged mode), your sub could be wired in series to yield an 8ohm load but that would half the 325 watts anyway and yield only 160 watts total..so it's a no brainer...one channel to each coil.

Awesome thanks.
So just so I understand this is what I do...

for the 2CH I have 4 outputs. Two - and two +. So I connect all 4 wires to the subwoofer? Just match each positive and negative to the seperate voice coils?

yes..hook it up just like the front speakers, + to +, - to -. Treat each coil as a separate speaker.

Awesome thanks so much for the help. Can't wait to try this, may have to drill a whole in my box though since it has connectors already, just one set. Since it was made for a single voice coil subwoofer.

drill a small hole , run your wires and then seal it up with caulking...most guys that build their own boxes do that anyway.

Okay sounds good, what gauge of wire should I use?
