how can you protect your sound system?

Ya I'm pretty about security too...
It gets shut down within 3km of my home, especially near the high school.
Alarmed & clubbed every night. The alarm siren is ear-piercingly loud. I park in a well lit condo complex, right near my and several other windows.
Stealth install, all you can see is the HU, backplate removed. Until I open the back doors. The rear windows are painted black for this reason. I'm getting an overhead DVD screen soon, so that'll be able to be seen too.
I've been meaning to get one of those GM steering column replacement steel covers for additional detterant... And I'd love to get my hands on some extra alarm sirens to wire up. Guess I should ask my stereo dudes if they got a pile of them somewhere...
Outside it's a plain jane work van - peeling paint, company lettering, a couple generic bumper stickers, nice OE aluminum wheels. Nothing flashy to attract attention.
My expenisve amps are mounted under the rear seat, you can't get 'em out without unbolting the rear seat, a pretty big task.
I don't show off to people I don't know, but it does get noticed while I'm "on the job" a lot. Like, the boys at the warehouse, a few other suppliers, various auto shops around town, that kinda thing.
I'm sure if a crook stopped and had a GOOD look through the windows, he'd decide to give it a try though, which sucks, I guess I should work on disguising my 6x9's and whatnot... So no, it doesn't get taken to bars or movie theatres or parking lots like that...

I've found that the best form of protection is a good alarm with pre-entry detection. Something that will trigger the alarm BEFORE the doors are opened. Once the siren is going, you're probably already going to have to pay a deductible anyways, so post entry features, like extra sirens, back-up batteries, pagers etc don't help you....only your insurance company will be glad you minimized the damage for them.
The most common type is a microwave sensor. However they can only be set to warn with chirps, otherwise they become an annoyance.
The best system is to install microphones on all the door locks, that will ignore people passing by, but will trigger if anyone touches the door handles, or tries to use a slim-jim.
A thief may try to unlock an alarmed vehicle, knowing that the alarm will sound once he opens the door, but he probably won't try to unlock a door on one when the alam is already going.
No amount of security can give absolute protection, only improve the odds a bit.

Stealth install, tint, and parking in the safest areas possible are all key as posted...
Other then that you need non-defeatble sirens.. louder the better.... this will also get your car towed to impound along with possible fines...
Everything should be secured... if your car is flashy in anyway (defro-lowered+rims) some visual indicators of a bad *** alarm install should be present.. (might be a good idea anyway)..
