I'm trying to diagnose my xtant's problems and I know that it shuts off at under 11 volts. If I use a volt meter, what do I connect to meter to to get a reading?

The red needle on the meter to the (+) lead on the amp and the black needle on the meter to the (-) lead on the amp.

Check the voltage at the battery first, then the amp, they should be the same. If the voltage is low at the amp, you have a bad or shorted connection, most likely on your ground.

Is the amp shutting down with the car on or off, with the car off, if battery voltage was to go under 11 volts, I would think that you would have a hard time starting your car.
