Most of the shops I hear about is by word of mouth. Some flyers, but I'd rather go in and actually talk to them and see what they know

There are shops that I've never heard of before in Edmonton until just a short while ago.

I think the internet can be a real good tool.

Word of mouth is good but it takes time, years....

Btu when it comes down to real the real world and the average Joe. There needs to be some sort of large quantity advertising to get the word out to alot of people. How, I duuno what would work best.

Sometimes I'll just open the yellow pages and look under the appropriate section to see just how many shops there are locally. I always find it suprising to find names I've never heard of before. Otherwise it's word of mouth, radio ads and even shop decals on customer cars.

Im not hard core into this stuff like a lot of you guys, so i am pretty much the average joe. The only advertising that i notice is the futureshop and best buy flyers and some ads in the toronto sun. Im guessing most of the local shops dont have the money to spend on mass advertising because there are stores that are literaly minutes away that i would never have known about if i didnt look on the yellowpages.ca website.

Yellow pages...

a BIG sign outfront that you can easily see from the road helps...

Easier to find and you might intise the odd person driving by to stop in....

driving around...
usually i'll know of one shop and there is a pretty good chance that another shop will be in the same business area. for some reason stores like to huddle up together with the same interests - i dunno if it helps business with competition, but i've found some audio shops just down the street from ones that i know, and they'll have a better price.
