HU Suggestions - current gear listed

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about upgrading my headunit but I've reached a dilemma.

What I've got:
2001 Chev Impala - w/o premium sound
Stock HU
RF p325.1
RF p450.4
Sony Xplod speakers front and back (from an old install, they gotta go!)
Sony XSL101P5 sub (from old install, also has to go!)
CarPC with surround sound ouputs

Currently I'm using a CarPC with a touchscreen installed in the dash as my media/infotainment center in the car. My 4 channel amp isn't installed at the moment and everything is through my stock headunit. I have an ipod interface that has an RCA input that I use for my CarPC sound to go into. I want to get rid of the stock HU, and put in something better for SQ and tuning.

I'm interested in using the surround sound outputs of my sound card on the PC to go directly into my amplifiers for a 4.1 channel setup. The problem I arrive at when trying to design my setup is somewhat confusing to me.

My thinking is that I need an RCA switch to swap back and forth between the PC going into the amps and the HU going into the amps. Not sure how both could be wired at the same time.

On the other hand, if my PC had an optical output that could go into a headunit, then headunit RCA output to amps with 4.1 might work better.

Are there any headunits with optical input? Any other suggestions about this situation?

**Sorry if it sounds confusing....just woke up with a massive hangover. Going to reread this after I shower.

You can get a headunit with aux inputs (RCA) or USB...

Otherwise I beleive the Clarion DRZ9255 has optical input... don't pass out when you see the price for a used one.

Thanks for the help. I might hold off on the headunit for now...

Finally installed my 4 channel amp though! Was quite the process but overall enjoyable.

What a difference in sound! Everything is so crisp and clear even at loud volumes. I'm so impressed.

While I had everything torn apart, I also organized all my wiring with split-loom and zip ties. Kinda looks like something resembling the Borg from Star-Trek but I like

Pictures to follow!
