I hear that JL is overpriced... Alternatives

Hey guys, I've read various car audio forums and I hear many people saying that JL is overpriced. However, none of the people who say this actually post alternatives which are either cheaper with similar quality or which are priced similarly but with better quality.
How true is this claim and what price/quality alternatives would you guys recommend?
I was personally looking into getting a 12' JL W3 sub but if I can find something of similar quality for cheaper, I'd definitely go for that.

Hybrid-Audio Technologies have great alternatives to JL
They have a fantastic sounding product, no matter what your price range.

It looks like they don't sell subwoofers or amps.

this is a subwoofer post... hybrid is still not a subwoofer company (I dont think a 6.5" sub gives them that pedigree, though they have been fielding prototypes for years)

I dont think JL is in any way anything other than a very good subwoofer in ANY category.
are they the least expensive, no
are they the loudest ,no
are they good quality across the board, yes
a typical JL gets loud and sound good doing it, it is a "me too" speaker but it is like a BMW that way

In Canada though JL's pricing structure is at a premium to comparable brands as compared to the US.

Still a damn fine product and I look forward to using it at some point possibly soon.

Oh, to answer your question: Rockford, Orion, and Alpine all come to mind for decent woofers.

Yea, that's exactly why I've been looking for alternatives.

I was actually looking at the Alpine Type-R subs but wasn't sure of the quality.

My bad.
Look at Sundown Audio.
Great gear and the prices are really reasonable.

I'm not sure what price or power range you are looking at, but the mach 5 audio underground is a fantastic sub for the price as well.
