My only concern with the foam and filling the dead air in my hatch is that I've got a bunch of wires running into the back there, for the latch, license plate lights, and for my rear wiper that no longer exists.

If I fill that area with Great Stuff, how am I going to service those wires in the future if something comes up? This cavity is probably 30" wide and about 4-6" deep with 3 large rectangular access holes.

Also, how badly does Great Stuff adhere to other things such as fabric? There's a few spots I wouldn't mind having it in the ceiling and maybe other spots, but again, if it's going to make any kind of service work in the future impossible I'm kind of hesitant to do it.

Also, I did the math on B-Quiet vs Dynamat Xtreme.

The best price I can get for Dynamat locally is $140 for 12 SqFt.
B-Quiet is about $160 for 50 SqFT shipped.

Dynamat is only ever so slightly more efficient at 20C (Average summer temp here) than B-Quiet.

Anyone know of any smell issues with B-Quiet?

 

In my opinion, the first step to quieting problems is to identify what they are. If you are hearing a panel vibrating against another one, then yes a layer of b-quiet will probably stop it but so would a layer of trunk liner at a fraction of the cost. I've made a lot of cars rattle free this way.

 

Just did B-Quiet and had no issues. No smells, hold's well. Just make sure you only use it where it NEEDS to go.

Eg: Knock on panels and listen for a hollow sound. If it's solid, skip it.

 

yup and that stuff is probably rattling

you wont in many cases though you may be able to dig out somethings eventually

Great stuff is first and foremost an adhesive it will stick to most things in a car especially the hands of he who is applying it and will then expand till all fingers are firmly bonded (laughing) seriously wear gloves and don't get the crap on your bare skin as some folks are sensitive to isocyanates



putting in too much can cause too much expansion and bent plastic/ sheet metal
