Info on 4x6's....

My little brother bought himself a truck and wants me to find him some good 4x6's. Anyone have any experience with any?? Looking for something that will sound clean and get half loud off deck power.

Of all the 4x6" speakers I have ever sold, the favorite was the old Alpine 6204. Might have been 17 years ago so good luck finding a set in working condition. For a current model, the Eclipse 4x6" has become my favorite.

depending on the car. there are adapters available to put up to a 6.5" round speaker where the 4x6 goes. you may want to look into that. i did that in my cavalier, round >>> oval

Infinity 6412CF - good for the SQ - he'll need something for mids and lows.

a little cheaper option are the Pioneers. (cheaper by about $30) but I would personally spend the extra $30 to get Infinity (my 2 cents)

yeah, if he's running them off the deck, then stick with the reference series as they're 4ohm. They are a good sounding 4x6, and with a decent sub can sound very nice.

I prefer these:

http://www.clarion.com/ca/en/products/2006/audio/speakers/SRC4696/ca-en-product-pf_1138706936340.html

I like that IIRC the tweeter is both swivel and also removeable if one wants to reposition it.

For $140 retail they're a good deal. Otherwise I also vote for the Infinity but you have to watch some cars (80s S10s for example) cuz the tweeter sticks up too high from the frame and makes replacing the grilles a real biotch.

Oh yeah - for all you Ford owners, Clarion has a 5x7 like that too

I got some rockford fosgates off cardomain for 75% off ($24) and they sound great. I can clearly hear the difference from my old pioneers. And like MR2NR said, the eclipses sound very good too. They are a lot more expensive but the sq is the best that I have heard from a 4 x 6.
