install accessories?
A question for shop owners/sales staff:
-Do your customers have a preferance to brand at all when buying accessories (kits, rca's, caps etc)?.
-What are your comments on selling amp install kits versus selling bulk parts?
Cheers

Most of our customers don't care about name brands of the cable we use - that comes partly from ignorance of not knowing that better cables will make a difference in the sound, and partly because we dont carry the cheap crap cables anyway, so they dont expect us to use that type in our installs.
I used to be a big fan of selling the bulk wiring, but I pretty much sell kits exclusively now, unless its a higher end system or a custom job.
I love amp kits and you can make more margin if your buy your kits right.

that few feet extra or even the 1/2 foot extra ends up costing you in the long run. Especially on a 1000' roll of 16awg or 12awg speaker wire. We are always writing off a few dozen feet.
The amp kits are more regulated and are perceived by the consumer as a higher value. Easier sale with less discounting.

I have to agree as well. I like having the bulk cabling but it seems the power wire is always 20feet short (and some salesguy has a new system in his ride) or speaker wire is getting used and given away all over the place.
Plus with a kit you make sure they are buying a fuseholder, ends, etc.
In my own shop I would most likely have both but try to push the kits to everyday customers.
As far as brands - it doesn't hurt to have a major wire brand like Streetwires, Stinger, Rockford, Lightning, PG, etc as people recognize that stuff immediately. For bulk wire I would buy the cheapest decent quality wire I could find.
