Man the variety of materials in my hand include, metals (of various types), plastic and wood.
as for scars, I think it shows years of experience, they make a conversation topic..,for a short time.

Jewellery is a bad thing to wear in the bay... A coworker somehow arced the ring on his middle finger, so that left a nice scar. I haven't been mortally wounded yet, save for scrapes and scratches, one fairly deep cut. I've had various pieces of MDF thrown at me by our friendly table saw (yay for anti-kickback... works like a champ), and left unscathed. Another co-worker somehow managed to shock himself pretty badly when he grabbed a bare wire from a neon transformer. I think he was sh!tting blue and red sparks after that. Oh, and courtesy bulbs on older vehicles are horrible when installing alarms/remote starters... jeebus, they must heat up to like 500F...

How's about 2 shaft radios that don't want to come out and one shaft ends up buried in your hand, grrrrr. Or watching a co-worker run into a glass door and break his nose, hahaha!

HEY I did the ole skin-the-knuckle-to-the-bone thing the other week workin' with the socket driver, and I was pulling, not pushing. It was just a tight space and the sucker slipped. Next paycheck, I will be gettin' some mekanix gloves fo' shizzle
