Insurance

Just wondering if everyone lets their insurance co know when they added their system?

Anyone that has NOT let them know and had stuff stolen... any probs with them on claims?

Only when it's more than 2g's, and then i have it appraised by the insurance company's car audio shop just to be safe, plus i take photos, and keep all receipts for equipment and i make a bill through one of my companies for labour time as i do my own installs. I know years ago...late 80's...i had my entire system stolen and it wasn't listed with them, but they still covered it...and that was 5500.00 back then. Now, i think they'll give you a lot more of a hassle if it's not listed, and they didn't increase your premium to reflect it.

Mine will cover up to $1,500 no problems.....after that you need to have a rider added to the policy detailing what you have, how much it cost, how much you paid for installation and they will charge you an extra premium for it.....for me the 40 odd $ a year are worth the peace of mind.......

HTH

this is very similar to what I have with Meloche here in AB. IIRC, SGI was similar as well.

Meloche told me that, if I had equipment worth more than $1500 they would not cover anything over $1500 unless I got extra coverage. they also told me that they would not insure any system with more than 2 power amplifiers, and would not shell out a penny if they found out that I competed with what I have. but the lady I spoke with was a bonafide bitch, so some of that could have been hate-inspired insurance BS.

best to talk to your insurance company to make sure you have proper coverage.

Interesting. I just called my ins. co (RBC Insurance) and w/o even giving any details on the system (other than asking for my phone #) they said I was covered even though I said it was at least $5000 - $6000. I need to check my policy later though to be sure.

yeah, I'd double check that if I were you...seems a little generous for an Insurance co.

I pay a premium with TD financial. $46/yr for $7k coverage. They've got all my system info including pics. They never asked about competing. They were very interested in my security though.

Checked again and got a diff answer. Figures. Have to fax them the receipts. I received a # of $150/yr.

What aholes... the 1st thing they asked (I pretty much told them off before about it) was to ask for the Drivers License #'s of others in the household. Pissed me off. I said show me in writing where I agreed to that, or in writing at all. And they couldn't. ******.
