Intro and some newbie help

Hey there fellow caraudioforumz-ians, I happened across this treasure trove of information and would really love some help getting my new car and I set-up.

I recently bought a Mazda MX-3 with 2 subs and custom interior included. Which is great, but there's a hole in the spot where my head unit should be!! I'm very much a complete novice when it comes to cars (as this is my very own first) and car audio so any and all help would be appreciated.

The previous owner had a sweet looking DVD head unit and so there's a big hole that needs to be covered. I wouldn't mind looking into one of those myself, but as I just spent a ton of cash on the car, it's not my greatest priority.

Basically, are there certain brands/unite specs to watch out for or any deals on good units (seeing as how the cyber sale is still on for another day) to look out for? I don't know too much about the specs of the car, but other than the interior and subs, I'd say the rest is stock (if that helps).

Hopefully this isn't too much for a newcomer to ask. Cheers everyone.

When you say big hole, I'm guessing it's a big square, as aopposed to a rectangle? If so, that's a double-DIN (industry speak) opening which allows you the option of replacing it with another double-din, or a single-din and a pocket/bin (or guage cluster, etc etc etc)
Brands are your preference. Are there any aftermarket amps other than one(?) for the subs? That may affect how many RCA pre-outs you need your deck to control. If you have only the one amp (or even if its a pair which you could just split the signal) you'd need only a "Sub pre-out" which pretty much any deck has. Anything above that may be more than you want/need- you'll have to be the judge, based on prices.
Good luck, and let us know what you end up with!!
