Ouch. Well, I love JBL amps. I am runing 3 perfect 10.1's off of my 1200.1 It runs all day full tilt at car shows and it never heats up. But the BP series stuff is disco, they new crown series stuff is even better. I used to build commericial sound systems (nightclubs ect) and all I ever used was either JBL or Crown 'K'series amps, so I guess I am a bit biased.

JBL is one of the oldest manufacturers on the planet, but they need to make price points so some of their stuff should be "great" and other stuff should be "OK".

In all honesty, given their marquee they should make the highest SPL and the best SQ drivers out there (top 5% from another thread)... period. And Crown given THEIR marquee should make some of the best amps, but I do not think they are top dog in all categories so they need to work a little harder IMO on their mid-range products.

I had a 1200.1 for a few years and it was an awesome amp. Got rid of it to try new things. Things that didn't impress me with it though were the lack of subsonic filter (destroyed 2 JL 12W4's without it), innaccurate adjustment *****, and poor x-overs.

the sound from a JBL amp is terrible....

my BP600.1 blew up... started smoking.... lasted a lil over a year.

in the wise words of MoPete... "if you want the best, you gotta go JBL".... hahahaha...

I always wonder how important a subsonic filter is especially in a ported box. Are you sure it was the lack of an SSF destroying your JLs?

When the subwoofer plays notes too far below the tuning frequency it tends to throw out like mad dog. thus causing ripped spiders/surrounds, and voice coild misalignment.
