JBL GTO 627 2 Ohm Speakers

Hi there let me start by saying I am new to the forum but i have been reading here for a while lots of good info. Now that my butt kissing is done let me start, I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado Reg Cab and I want to put in a set JBL GTO 627 6.5 2 ohm and a set of JBL GTO 6427 also 2 ohm 4x6 speakers, I have a Alpine CDA 9857 Head Unit. Can I run these off my head unit? Will I cook the headunit? I have had a shop tell me JBL wouldn't make them if I couldn't, but I would like a secound opinion.
Thanks

Will they cook your headunit, probably not but at the same time your dash cavity has little to no room to breathe and get rid of the excess heat at the same time. Personally I would not do this unless I was using an outboard amp that was and is designed to do this job. While the cd players tiny little internal amp may be able to do this, the question is for how long. I side with the not recommended approach.

That series is really made to run on an amp. You may damage your HU.

I have the 2 ohm Infintiy Kappas (same company as JBL...Harman International). I have found them to be very good sounding and louder with the same power I had going to Jbl 4 ohm power series speakers previously. It's not a big difference in loudness, but it's there. As far as quality goes, both are equally good, and I like Jbl and Infinity brands for many reasons including reliability, quality, sound characteristics (tend to be a little brighter than others, and sound more large scale concert like...which I like), and the price is reasonable.
Definitely use an amp for those, as 2 ohm speakers means that your reciever's amp will be trying to put out twice the current compared to 4 ohm...may work, but will heat up a lot more!

Ok I talked to a friend of mine and he told me to put a stereo in my truck I need a Radio Replacement Module, or it may not start, WTF is that? Also how hard is it to pull apart the dash on a new Chev Pick up? I need to try and find a sub that can fit behind the middle seat also, all I can come up with is the new Pioneer Pancake 12 in their own box but i cant find the box anywhere in Canada. Model Number Pioneer UD-SW12B if any one has one of these or know where I can get one that would be great. I wish I could fit my JL 12W3 back there but it is too deep. So any opinons would be welcome.
Thanks

To be legal in Canada you do need the expensive GM Class II databus harness in most newer GM vehicles. As far as the box goes, it is as simple for me to pick up the phone and order one. I received a e-mail from someone about this box, perhaps it was you. I have not heard back from my rep yet but will ensure that I look into this promptly as well. My rep may answer the phone tomorrow but more than likely it will be Monday before I know for sure if it is in stock and how quick it can be here.

How much room do you have back there as Bassworx has a box built to spec for those drivers. They are listed as 6.5" thick
