JBL GTO's

Hey guys. I've just gotten myself a set of JBL GTO's (GTO527) and was just wondering how I wire them into my 4ch to run at their advertised 2 ohms.

If they are dvc just bridge the channels together i believe and by having 2 subs it will go into 2 ohms but i am not sure since I have never had dvc subs.

they are what they are, a 2 or a 4 ohm load. the amp is what takes different load's so does you amp like 2 ohm's stereo?
how many subs do you have?
do they have 2 coils or one?
and whats your amp?

They are a single coil 2 ohm speaker,,, run them directly positive and negative to the channels on your amp. the idea of these speakers being 2ohm is to create a consistant load on your amplifier through all frequences when most 4 ohm speakers fluctuate from 4 ohms to what ever.

If you're looking for a 2 channel amp to pound those subs feast your eyes on this big boy. PM me for a price. It was amp clamped @750 per side. It will run @2 or 4ohms :smilie_da

where are these dragster amps from and sold? i have only seen these amps once and it was in a car done *supposedly* at one of the west coast shops, it was the most ridiculous install jobs ive seen by a prossesional shop:dunno: very scary, anyways the amp didnt sound too bad...didnt get much of a listen however, was too busy re-wiring, the cat 5 or coax cable they used as speaker wire :stroke:

Has anyone not noticed these are not subs? But they are 5.25" Will will most lkely only be able to use two of the four channels one on each and it will load those two channels into 2 ohms

Killer_klown187 02-07-2007 01:08 PM

lol..^ that is truly funny. 5.25" and not a sub! I thought for sure it was a sub by reading it

tonez735 02-07-2007 01:15 PM

I guess everyone just likes bass

Brad-S.A. 02-07-2007 01:26 PM

Haha true enough!

tonez735 02-07-2007 01:31 PM

Mind you, we could try and see what kind of SPL 2 5.25's would do.

I'd wear safety glasses and a hard hat though.. Bound to be a flying voice coil or 2.

Anyone heard what 2 "high excursion" 5.25's in ported box will do?

zinger002 02-07-2007 03:38 PM

130 db's

ch0g0nda 02-08-2007 01:01 AM

Yeah, sorry I haven't replied earlier. Some of these posts just blew me away.

Thanks jmack, you're the only one who got it.

Anyway, they're running hooked up in the fashion described by jmack and they sound pretty good. For $130 I figure there isn't really anything out there that can beat them.

I have the infinity kappa's which i'm very happy with. I'm surprised that more manufacturers aren't offering 2 ohm components and co-axials given the number of 2 ohm stable amps on the market. Seems like an easy way to maximize amp power and usage. The only brands I'm aware of currently are Infinity, JBL, and Image Dynamics.

Brad-S.A. 02-08-2007 08:42 AM

There is a few that do 3ohm like Ultimate and Powerbass as well

tonez735 02-08-2007 11:47 AM

I don't know about the new stuff but the older Orion components were available in 2 ohm. I'm not sure if their new stuff is any good but it might be lead.
