Jerked Around By Insurance Company

So I thought I would give you guys the heads up on my insurance company. 6 months ago I called my insurance company to see if I could get extra insurance to cover all my stereo and what not.
At that time they informed me that they were not sure if they were even going to insure me any longer because of the modifications and the fact that I take the car to car shows. They told me that they would call me back within 48 hours and send me a letter stating that my insurance was cancelled if that is what they intended to do. So I waited the 48 hours never heard a thing. Never got a letter. The insurance payments continued to come out for the next 5 or 6 months, until last Sunday when my car was STOLEN!
I did the typical things like calling the police which told me to call my insurance company. I called the insurance company. They were very good and set me up with a rental car for the following morning. I picked up the rental and drove it for 2 days before I even heard from an adjuster. When talking to Steven ( My adjustor ) he informed me that my claim was being suspended due to the fact that my car insurance was supposed to be cancelled 6 months ago! and that it was likely that they are not going to pay AT ALL!! I got a call momments later from my rental car company stating that I had to return the car or pay for it myself. I needed a car so I said I would pay for it for now, Because my inurance company had to pay for it I was insured. I had the car for another 3 days and I get another call from the rental car company stating that my insurance company has refused coverage and I must return the car " NOW ". So I did. I just got off the phone with Steven momments ago and he is explaining to me that this could take weeks to resolve and they are still not going to pay for my rental nor pay out for my vehicle until the matter at there end is resolved.

Any one have any advice on the matter?

Get a lawyer or at least go to one and get free advice. You should have received a registered letter in the mail notifying you of your insurance cancellation. Until then you should still be covered.

Contact a television station and make your adjuster aware that you are doing so and will be providing the news with your story. Then remind your adjuster that you have a contract that is basically iron clad stating you have to pay your dues, and they have to pay if something happens. You lived up to your end of the agreement, there is nothing they can do but as all insurance companies do they will try to do anything they can to not pay, afterall if they paid everyone they would make less money. Also I am sure there is no clause that says if you took your car to a car show then it doesn't qualify, and the fact that you informed them of that and they made no effort to change your policy is proof of it...there is no such thing as "supposed to be cancelled" its either cancelled or its not, in this case its not and so they have to pay. Like I said the best way to get action is to make it public by talking to the local news station

I agree with contacting a news company I think CTV does stuff like that all the time...

I am in a pretty bad mood right now so if you need some pne beaten up or even worse let me know lol.... (I was working with the slowest guy on earth today, a 4hr job took 10hrs which made a 12hr day on a freaking friday....)

Before you head down a path that is beyond return, you may want to talk to them a bit more. Go higher than the initial adjuster drone of course. You may be surprised...but if you draw your sword? Best of luck, all future avenues are closed.

Thanks Guys! As it goes right now I am still without a rental car and am waiting on someone from the insurance company to come to my house on tuesday to talk about it. I am really hoping that it gets resolved without a lawyer. But I definatley have been in contact with one just incase. That idea about calling a news station is a fantastic idea! if it doesn't turn out nice I will start tring to figure out who does that sort of investigation!

And one more thing! Can you go through your home insurance for your audio equipment in the car or is 1500.00 all you get from your auto insurance?
