Which amp has better SQ? The amp will be powering a set of Alpine Type X components.
I can get the JL for 900 and the PG for 1600, are these good prices or should I look for a better deal?
So if it was up to you, which amp would go with?
Thanks fer your help guys

Which Type X? 2 way or three way?
JL has R.I.P.S system and Absolute Symetry circuitry, both contributing to SQ. Considering the huge price difference between the two, look into a JL 450/4. You could also look at a 500/5 and have an extra sub channel for more fill (8W7)

The PG is a little overpriced , the Jl is fair but you could probably get a better deal at Radioactive Brulington ,call em up .
I'd say that the JL is a better amp for the money , it provides solid non fluctuating consisten power at whatever voltage level your electrical system will be giving and solid SQ !!!
The PG amps are classics in the true meaning of the word . Slightly outdated and much heavier on the current amperage draw , would imagine to be lot less efficient then the JL ( although we are talking about highs ) , espcially If add'l sub amp(s) will be installed later .
In terms of average ear SQ the amps are similar with perhaps slightly different characteristics as you would expect two different audio manufacturers . The PG is surely a wonderful amp and little negative can be said about it .
I am sure most poeple in this forum would agree that the extra $ 700 ,- on the PG are not justified and not worth it . That could either completely cover or be put towards other equipment you will need building a system .

Look in the classifieds. Tom is selling a used PG475Ti for a little over $400. It is basically the same as the 500Ti, but a year older. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference. They look the same and put out identical power.

Both those amps are great. Price wise though, that's a chunk of dough to be tossing around. So make sure the features are there that you want and that the amp will do exactly what you want it to do.
Yes, I was just also going to mention this. The 475ti amp I'm selling for a friend is mint................. no issues. Only reason it's being sold is that the guy bought ARC Audio XXK amplifiers. May be worth getting into something like this for a lot less money and put that monay elsewhere in the system.

In regards to SQ, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two amps. In a controlled environment no one on this board could.
Choose the amp that offers the features that you need to build your system. I'm guessing that you wish to bi-amp the components...If so, then the crossover section of the amps will be a more important issue than the "SQ" of the amp.
Consider other factors such as the warrenty and service offered by the manufacture.
If I were in your shoes??? I would probably get the JL as it is much cheaper and offers pretty much everything the PG does. In addition, JL's warrenty and repair program is excellent.
