What would be better:

Two JL 13W1v2 in a sealed enclosure

or

Two Alpine 12" Type-S in a sealed enclosure

I will be running either off my 400 watt RMS Rockford amp stable down to 2ohms

 

Alpine is good but Type S line is not that great. Type R yes. I would go with JLs if these are the only choices you're considering.

 

type s sucks the type r's are good. but i would go with the JL's in your case with the power you are going to put to them.

 

between those, jl all the way. imo on what sound i like, and plus they should be louder than the alpines. type r is more of a get loud sub with a bit of sq. they can sound alright, but they will be loud for sure in a proper box. many people have done some great numbers with type r's.

 

yeah, the type-r's would be good, but they are outside my RMS range, i'd rather be properly powering the JL's and get some crystal clear sound and proper power matching.

so far the consensus is JL, anybody have any other recomendations for under $650 for 2 subs and a box?

If it were me i'd get neither, i'd get pioneer or audiobahn but if i had to get one it would be the JL's those alpine's suck. I do like alpine, don't get me wrong but not those.
