JL AUDIO XR-653CS
I was looking into these components, there a 3 way setup just wanted to know if anyone has these if so how they sound? and are they worth the price? I think I have the correct models listed could be off by a number?
lol, It doesn't appear so. I've heard several JL speaker products on the board, and I don't think I have much to beef about them. Crossovers might be fat on the XR comps, but that's typical with any well built crossover.
In most cases, really a 2 way setup is sufficient. Depending on the application and what suits it best. If you want midbass, often a 6½ in a good baffled door enclosure puts out the midbass. I myself would only consider a 3 way if there was an 8" or 7" driver. There's too much possible range over-coverage, IMO with a 6, 4, and tweet. I hope I'm not losing you here.

JL Audio spent alot of time with the 653 package. Typically many manufacturers would use their existing speakers with retuned xovers for a 3 way set. JL made a special 4-inch called the XR400-CM because their existing 4-inch which was the one used in the xr400-CX wasn't as effiecient as the XR650-CM. As with most JL x-overs, the lowpass filter is usually a simple 1st order config (the odd 2nd order exsists as well) to avoid complex saturated x-overs. Their philosophy is to build the speaker as best as you can and not rely on the x-over to make up for the speakers short comings or limitations

reads like a standard 3way second order crossover - albeit with some very nice features.
No challenge or anything as I have not heard these drivers but hear enuf about them to know they must be very nice.
