JL W7 aka Godzilla

So I know they're not called Godzilla in any circles, at least I don't think they are, but everyone seems to be in love with the W7. Now, I've never heard them but I'm sure they're great. My question however, is in regard to why they aren't taken so seriously.

Could it be the price? Could it be because the 13'' is a 13''? Could it be the 1.5 ohm coils? Or could it be that they are supposed to be rated at 1500 rms, but on the JL site their engineering department says that giving it 1500 watts voids the warranty?

I think it's just because of the usual jl haters because there are so many jl lovers.

price... u can get so many other woofers out there for much cheaper than the W7... especially if you factor in the 13" & H.O. box.. comes to be close to or over $1000. IMO, its a great sub, amazing sound... but for that price you can do much better.

I'd buy one but I'd never pay that much for a sub @ 1,500wrms. I just paid ~250 bucks for an Audiopulse Revo 10" rated @ 1,500 watts rms and can definately take more than that and sounds great.

I've heard W7's and dont get me wrong they're great subs, but for the price of it, i'd pass.

Well if you want all-out SQ then there's better sounding subs (even the cheaper W6's sound better). If you want to get really loud there's better choices.
Now add in the funky coils, the massive mounting depth, the weight, and the PRICE and you're left with not much going for it. Oh and I'll add that it's inefficient.
It's a great sub and has a great mix of SQ and SPL abilities but it has too many turnoffs.

good points, but if you bought one you should be able to live with its VG SQ and SPL performance and be satisfied for many years, but if your a push the envelope kind of guy you probably wont do a long term commitment to ANY sub anyway.

they are over priced because they are a well established name, they figure they can sell them for like 700$ for a 12 and they sell because they are established, alot of big names are like that. Are they worth that much to me? No, but, on the other hand they are very nice woofers and put out amazing SQ.

So price would be my only draw back/hate towards the W7

they're overpriced for more than just the name.
I'm fairly certain that R&D enters the equation, as there doesn't seem to be alot of generic "off the shelf" parts (baskets, motors etc) in a W7 compared to something DC, FI etc.
but like others have said, there are other similar, and good, options for considerably less money.

I'd buy one if it wasn't so expensive (I could buy 3 SDX15s for the price of a 13W7 lol). I don't mind JL at all, I had W6s and loved them for SQ.

why do people buy louis vuitton luggage bags? are the ones from the bay not good enough? they both hold your clothes when traveling, have the same compartments, and hell, maybe the one from the bay is better...

so why pay $1000 for one bag and $85 for the other when they both do the same/the cheaper one does better.

the W7 is a status symbol. if you own one, you flaunt it. i have yet to meet a guy that doesn't flaunt the fact he has a W7. if you have money, and a "ballin" car then chances are you are intrigued by the sub.
