K&W Audio is a hi-end home audio store in Calgary. I will be going there tomorrow to listen to some of my sq cd's. We all know that we should listen to our sq cd's on an excellent quality home audio system and then listen to those same cd's in our car afterwards. I have never done this before so tommorrow will be cherry popping time for me.
This store carries names such as DENON, MARANTZ, JM LABS, BANG&OLUFSEN, McINTOSH and more.
I can't wait to audition some of their equipment.
By the way, for those of you living in Calgary, BANG & OLUFSEN, has opened up a store dealing exclusively with only B&O products.

Yeah, I've seen a few B&O stores in my travels south of the border, they're along the lines of sony stores, carry everything B&O carries kind of thing.

I wish they brought B&O over here to the Lower Mainland. Either I'm deprived, or I haven't looked hard enough around here.

^ you haven't looked hard enuf - AVU in Abbotsford had a B&O display in there for years. They don't like me there so I have not been in for a while to see if they still have it.

(Hanging head in shame), I don't particularily like AVU.

does anybody?

disclaimer: talking about the Vancouver area Corporate Stores only. Franchise stores may actually hire decent staff..

We have our fun with newbies, don't we? :D

The amplifier was Lexicon, the wiring was Monster Cable, the voltage stabilizer was Monster Power, the cd player was Arcam and the speakers were Martin Logan electrostatics. The electrostatic speakers have a mylar film sandwiched between 2 layers of thin metal. When electical energy is applied to this set-up, the entire sandwich moves back and forth very quickly to produce high range and mid range frequencies. There is absolutely zero distortion from the electrostatic sandwich speakers. The mid bass and sub bass were produced by 2 8" subwoofers mounted underneath the electrostatic speakers in a sealed enclosure. The subwoofers were the high quality cone variety and arranged in a push-pull configuration to diminish distortion. This was a simple 2-way set-up...there was no surround sound, and it sounded magnificent. There was ample sound dampening applied throughout the listening room. I sat there for 2 hours listening to my various sq cd's. Very impressive indeed. These Martin Logan speakers are the middle of the line and retail for about $55,000 Cdn per pair. The top of the line Martin Logans retail for about $124,000 Cdn. The owner told me that he will eventually order-in the $124,000 Martin Logans.

Mmmmmmm 'Logans. I dig those A shop that Dukk worked at used to carry a couple of their 'lower end' ($4500/pr) speakers. They always sounded beautiful. They just had this effortless way of producing the sound. Transparent and light I guess is how you would put it perhaps? If I had the bucks, I'd buy a pair. Very very nice.

I remember hearing about this guy buying a pair and taking them home to hook 'em up himself cuz he figured he knew how. Of course not reading the instructions, he proceeds to not plug the power cord in the wall for them to energize them properly and just hooks up the speaker wires. Promptly burnt this nice line right in the middle of the ribbon diaphragm  Didn't affect the sound though once he got them plugged in the right way.

^ ...OR, you could find out the raw drivers/tweeters/crossovers that are used, build your own cabinet and save yourself a bundle.
