Kenwood Deck Removal

I am wanting to remove my old kenwood deck and put in my new pioneer premier 880prs. However, in the manual, it mentions something about needing keys to physically pull the deck out. Do I need these, or is there another way to pull it out?

is it mounted with the cage or is it solidly screwed in. if you can see a little cage around the other edge of the deck itself you will need these keys. or you can take your dash apart to get at it.

I used to have a kenwood deck,If i remember correctly the keys you are talking about are very thin pieces of metal,I of course never could find them after i installed it,Just find something thin enough to fit between the unit and the sleeve.

For your next deck, I suggest bolting it in. A car deck thief will carry around the din tools and will take your entire deck (happened to two friends of mine, took the entire unit, and another friend who bolted it in, his vehicle was broken into, the thief left marks for where the din tools go, so you can tell he tried to grab the unit, that was in surrey, but they grabbed his ipod that he stowed away in the glovebox instead)
It's worth it for the extra trouble, IMO.

Ya, there is a cage around the deck. I'll go over to one of the shops in town and kick up some keys. As far as security goes, I have a car alarm, always take my face plate off, and my install will be fairly stealth (hatch cover over sub box and stock grills over mids/tweets). Probably would be smart to bolt my deck in, but I move equipment around soo much its more of a pain in the *** for me. When I get jacked one day you can rub it in my face.

you think a shop is going to give you keys?
use a very thin pieces of metal on each side
or
pay the shop to remove it

I don't expect a shop to give me keys, I was just gonna suck it up and buy a set if they had em to get this damn thing out. I don't wanna wait and pay for someone to pull it out when I am quite capable of doing it myself.

Lightbulb

Drop into a shop. I know I have never charged to pop a deck out for someone. Nobody I know charges for that. Hell, if they ask I let them keep the keys too, I have dozens for each brand.

I agree, most shops will be very accomodating to situations like yours.

Cool, I'll have to stop in at my local shop(s) and see what they can do. Just a pain in the *** because my dash is easy to work with, just need to get this damn old deck out!
