Hi,

I was originally considering a JL 250/1, but I think that may not be enough for a Kicker VS12L5 (Kicker box with 12" L5 ported box 600W-RMS). I know that the JL is a quality built amp but it seems a bit overpriced.

My other choice is a Kicker KX400.1. It is rated at 400 at 2ohms and also has a builtin subsonic filter which is important for ported boxes. I can get the amp for around 450.00.

Do you think this is a good amp and sub combo? Is that amp powerful enough? I've been told that thise Kicker amps are under-rated and should really put out close to 500WRMS. It would also be nice to have all the equipment the same brand name.

Thanks for your input guys.

The Kicker amp will be great for that box.

I've got about 600w RMS going to my 12" L5 and it's great!

Yeah , but you're pushing 600RMS on a 600RMS rated L5 Sub. I was just wondering if the Kicker 400.1 (400WRMS) is enough power?

Also, do you think $450.00 is good deal for this amp?

Just because the sub is rated at 600w RMS doesn't mean you HAVE to give it that much power.

I'm sure the 400w would be enough.

I can't really comment on the price though because I'm not that familiar with pricing on Kicker amps. At first glance it seems like a decent price though.
