it seems the price of laptops these days which play DVDs perfectly really rivals pricing of dvd players and LCD screens. Also if you want a 12"+LCD screen - pricing is really high - almost equal to a full laptop with 15" screen.

Does anyone see downside of using a laptop?

has anyone mounted a laptop to easily pop it in and out?

thanks
craig.

When I was in retail I had a number of customers ask me that same question.

It is a good idea but there are some things to think about:

- Theft. If it's not permanently attached to the vehicle, it's not covered under insurance.

- Vibration. Although laptops are built for transport, vibration from vehicles over time will adversely affect the computer.

- Installation inflexibility. The screen has to go wherever the computer goes, you cannot separate them like you would separate components.

- Power supply. Laptop batteries are getting better but for any road trip you would definitely need an DC-AC inverter.

The benefit is that the computer functions may be possible to use mobile like e-mail & internet & the pricing is also competitive.

Hope these points help in your decision & good luck!
