Line out converter gain settings?

Hey guys,
I'm installing a line out converter to my amp in my new truck. The LOC has adjustable gain control. What determines what the gain on the LOC should be set at?

Don't know if it helps but its a factory system running through an adjustable LOC to a Hifonics Brutus Bxi2006D.

I would set it by ear.....since the rest of the system is factory, I would unhook the RCAs, find the volume level where the factory speakers start to distort and back it off a notch.

Hook the RCAs back up, leave the amp gains at minimum and use the LOC gains to raise the level of the subs....if you get no distortion at that point you can use the amp gains to see if there is any more headroom in the pre-amp section to get a little more output.

When you hear distortion you're done.

You could use a scope to dial it in exactly but this should get you pretty close....

Enuff reasoning?.....
