looking for a deck, need help

hi all, haven't been here is a while, but i am wondering what you think is a good deck that will

- be as good or better then the stock deck in my 2003 Sunfire
- can play mp3 cd's
- has a front aux input

i'm very much leaning towards the Pioneer DEH-1100MP

the cheapest i can find it new, is 119.99 at bestbuy, anyone know where i can get it cheaper in toronto?

not that it matters, i don't think it does, but i plan to keep my stock deck and hide the aftermarket under my ac control's in a box i plan to make for it.

i will have both powered with the speaker out puts going to 4x 2P2T ON-OFF-ON switches. i will simply flip the switches to change from stock to aftermarket.

i don't see any issues with it, but do you?

i made a fairly quick wiring diagram. if you can follow the lines, everything should work out fine. the switches will not allow for the two decks to send each other power via their outputs.

there are 3 sides to each switch.
1. the stock deck will feed one side.
2. the aftermarket deck will feed the other side
3. the speakers will be fed from the middle.

hope that all makes sense, tried to fully explain it all.

Not entirely sure of that Pioneer, I have a Pioneer DEH 3700MP, paid $50.00 via Ebay. Previous deck was a Blaupunkt. The difference in sound/quality of the Pioneer is tremendous. And does play MP3s via CD/CD-R/RW and has ability for aux input for iPod and could be hooked up for satellite radio.

I don't see much reason to keep your stock deck though.

if your keeping the stock deck for appearance, don't bother wiring it up so it works. Just keep power, ground and the data wires hooked up and wire all the speakers to the pioneer.

Also if you are installing a $120 radio, why bother building a box. and going through all that trouble. Just isntall it properly.

reason for keeping the old deck is so no one can otherwise tell that i have a system in there.

@Nagamitsu - i live next to a shady area and my brothers setup was stolen, as well as a bench in the front of our house... who the hell steals a bench??

@Sikk Nation -i need/want to have the stock deck working since i want to keep the door chime. also i don't plan on changing over the radio, so this deck will just be for cd/mp3 player. which makes it less and less worth it... arg.

it's not trouble for me, i enjoy these projects. i mainly just wanted to know about the unit and weather it's a good unit or not. most of the reviews say its a good deck.

thanks for the posts guys, anyone else on the deck and brand?

Install the Pioneer, assuming it has detachable face plate, detach each night and bring into your home. I don't think anyone would steal a deck without faceplate?

I pop mine off each night.

not worried about the deck getting stolen, it's my subs and amp i am worried about.

i shut off the music when i get near my place.

i went out and impulsively got the model i listed. need to wire it all up and see how it works out.

well, the deck is junk... sounds worse then stock after hooking it up like a normal deck before i went to all that work of having both in. you have to turn it up so much to get any decent bass it's to loud.

Have you set the gains on the amp properly yet? What are you using for front speakers? Are they running off the deck power alone?

Do you have both the factory and the Pioneer hooked up? Wondering if that is why you are lacking output.
