Looking for opinions. Going from a 4.1 to 2.1 setup

So my system is basically complete aside from some more deadening needed, and I am very happy with the turn out. It's exactly what I wanted sq/spl. Currently I have 2 sets of components running 130watts up front and 90watts in the rear. I've noticed the fronts over power the rears but I can still hear some rear fill. My question is would I noticed a huge difference going to a 2.1 setup where I bridge my amp for 300wattsx2 to power a set of high power components up front and remove the rears completely ? Would it be louder this way? Also would it sound any better ? I understand removing the rears and only running fronts would give me better imaging. Again I'm just curious. Also curious if my sub would be able to keep up as right now it's perfect. Any input from people who have expirenced a change in setup like this would be awesome. Thanks

Personally i will never return to speaker in the back (unless there's some processing done to add ambiance).

Now can you give us the specs of your system because something is not adding up.

130w front and 90w rear is that the rating for the speakers? Is the front and the back 4 ohms sets?

My front stage is a set of 6.5inch components rated at 2.7ohms. 120rms is recommended but I'm giving them 130rms. My rears are 6x9s 4ohms rated at 90rms. I actually have the amp tuned to give them 110rms. My 4 channel amp is a JL HD600/4. My substage is a JL 12w7 in a custom to spec box powered off of a JL HD750/1 tuned for exactly 750watts rms. if you need more info let me know

Where do you get that 2.7 ohms rating?

The 600/4 bridged will only do 3 ohms and up.

Deck?

2.7ohms i get from reading the info that came with my components. if i did go to a 2.1 setup with my amp bridged id buy new components for my front stage. something with a much higher power handling and at minimum 3ohm impedance. my deck is a kenwood excelon kdc-x895 with 4volt preouts

Ok i was wondering if your deck had the capability to go active (no passive crossover)

If you're after loudness, make sure you go with a set that will be at least as efficient as your current one. If you get a set that is let's say 3dB less efficient you will need double the power the get the same output.

BTW you don't need a 300w set of component, adjust your gain properly and if you are not cranking it to the max 100% of the time playing tones a 150w quality set will handle the extra occasional peak.

If you doors are not sealed and well deadened I would do that first. Depending on the car, this alone would be better than swapping component and doubling power.

Ok so my doors do have some deadening done, the speaker is sealed pretty tight. So basically a more efficient speaker at 150watts will sound alot louder ? I'm after spl/sq so would you recommended removing my 6x9s in the rear ?

Ok are you looking for loud and clear type of sound (concert level) or a more detailed sound that realistically reproduce the sound-stage and tonality.

If you are after loud n clear, i would look into fitting some 8" pro sound driver in your doors and also use the rear deck to put some there too. something like the B&C 8MDN51 will be stupid loud on the 600/4 bridged ,but you will need another amp to power the high and use the amp crossover.

Removing speakers rarely results in louder. Doubling the power up front will make them just barely noticeably louder than they are now. If you want to see how the sound is affected by deleting the rears, just unplug them.

Ultimately, if you like some sound from the back, and lots of people do, then keep it in there. Should you choose to participate in an SQ event, just unplug them.

Ok that sounds like a good idea. I was just wondering what kind of gain I would get removing the rears bridging my amp and putting double the power up front to get a louder system yet retaining the sq I have now even if that meaning getting a different component set up front that will handle more power and get louder.
