Loud hiss from Aux Input on new Pioneer Deck
I just installed a Pioneer Premier P690UB into my car, everything works great EXCEPT the aux-in to which I have my XM connected to.
The XM unit is the AGT Sportscaster (to match the lighting style of the interior) with an in line power filter. Its connected to the back of the Pioneer with a standard (el-cheapo) headphone jack.
With the XM unit unplugged from the Pioneer, and Pioneer set to AUX IN, there is a constant static type noise, a lot like hiss but not as crisp - and the problem is just amplified and dominates the listening experience with the XM plugged in.
Any suggestions on how to reduce/eliminate the hissing? I'd hate to cancel my XM subscription but can't stand the hiss either.
The problem is blatantly more obvious on channels with more talk (which are the ones I mainly listen to).
Cheers.

Just a WAG, but...
The DEH-P960UB Owners Manual mentions that the deck has input level adjustments - could your AUX input gain (in the HU) be too high (see pg 28, "Adjusting Source Levels")?

Thanks for the response.
The input gain allows one to match the level across all sources using the FM as a baseline. I currently have it set at the same 'default' level. Even with the SLA (Source Level Adjustment) down the noise is still present.
In addition, I tried to use the built in EQ to reduce the noise but to no avail. On the EQ setting of 'flat' the noise is almost unbearable - close to AM SQ.

are there amplifeiers in the system ?
the other thing to do is run the hu off another battery that is not connected to your viechle. see what happens, and if your stuck for a battery,l use a drill battery thats 14.4 or 12v and it will do the samething if your only running pre outs

Hmm.. I'll see how / when I could run the HU off another battery, I was planning on running my XM of a separate 12v battery (rechargeables) but the problem seems to be with the HU Port.
I'm thinking my hookup cable to the aux in is causing line noise to be introduced (its a pretty cheap cable) or the HU is just poor.. but why would the other sources (CD, Tuner, USB) work flawlessly with no noise but not the aux?

It sounds like some sort of ground problem, given that you can 'hear' other car parts in the noise. Of course, with no input signal and a high volume setting, you'll get all the noise there is to get. Maybe cable (not a big problem), or HU (bigger issue)...
Does the XM radio get it's 12v from the same source as the HU (ie car batt)?
Have you tried connecting something else (MP3 player, Discman etc) to the AUX in, just to see if anything different happens?
[ on edit - I'm too slow! ]

OK I did a small test since posting this.. with the xm radio OFF, and the aux on, I could hear the whine.. with the power plug removed from the XM, (and XM off) and the aux on there was no hiss!
I think I'm going to power the XM via a 12v battery or equivalent AA/9V combinations.. simple enough to make for a few bucks and avoid the whine.
Thanks guys for all the suggestions.
