Hi guys , im using a set of focal 165 k2ps and 2 jl w7s on 2 jl 300/2s and 1 500/1 with a ruler flat freq. responce on the AC rta . Sounds great but im only getting about 113 db out of it , my only guess is that its a ford explorer and I have alot of cabin space . Would love about 130 db , What are you guys getting ? SQ SYSTEMS

Usually, suv's are pretty good when it comes to spl. It could be that you arent giving enough power to them. W7's are very power-hungry.

But, thats just what I think.

The only way you are going to come drastically up to the 130db level is to add a crapload of power to those W7's. Of course this is going to totally change the RTA at the same time. The W7's can take, what, 1000w rms and you have a pair of them? 500w rms split to the two subs = respectable tonal response but you are not even tapping the real abilities of the sub at the same time. Give them the power they desire and that SPL reading is going to come up quite well. Then you will need to balance out the ability of the subs in a SPL setting for a comp vs. the nice flat RTA that you desire for daily listening.

should have mentioned its 2 8" w7s , 300 w rms . I should also add that i want to bring up the entire system level , I grew out of showin my *** with boom along time ago . If I wanted that Id put my 12s and 1000/1 back in . That sounded pissy , sorry , not intended .

those amps use regulated power supplies so even if your voltage is dipping adding a larger alt probably isn't going to make a difference in output level....... and even with an unregulated amp I doubt you would ever see a 5db increase...

that is unless the alt boosts you from 10v average to over 18v.. lol

most people consider 120 db with music to be a 'reference level'..... so if it was an unweighted mic or even C weighted but tested with music then IMO 113db might be a bit on the low side; of course that may also be the price you pay for flat response with 8s in a sealed box... !

If you want to boost the overall level I might suggest boost on the bottom end so the other levels can be brought up as well... also consider going to a larger woofer, more power, larger box, and/or ported low.....
