I guess my point was just that I think a lot of headroom is really unnecessary AND that the concept of power is really misunderstood. There's no such thing as RMS power and even then, it's average power that matters and that's a way more complicated concept. Clipping isn't nearly damaging as most would have you believe.

My apologies if I've misinterpreted what's being said here.

so they are not being overpowered they are just being run off a more powerful amp that is still only producing 300 watts but has the ability to produce 600

My 4 15"s are getting ~700w each, with the gain set at very minimum. (Amp is ~2400w at .5ohm)

Ghetto 6x9's are getting 50w each, and components are getting 75w per side (75w rms)...

All i was trying to say, and is my belief is (as stated with my opening of "IMO") is that in general I'd rather have too much power rather than too little and that there is no secret formula to figuring out what amp to power specific speakers (that i know of).

headroom is somewhat wasteful (one way to look at it i guess) but I'd much rather have 200watts too much than not enough.

and for the record I am not disagreeing with Ligeia

My brother ran a t110D4 rated rms was 650 , off a Zx 1500.1 @ 2 ohm which puts out 1750 rms on the brith sheet, daily and it gets a bit hot but never has any problems.(And no the gain was not cranked way down either) Before u ask why he did it , i dont think he planed on actually keeping it so he decided to push it and it took it.Never seen a sub move like that in my life tho

I'm running all Focal right now:

- 130V2's getting 75W
- 130CV1's getting 75W
- brand new 27V2 getting 600W @ 2ohms
- Focal Power 4.75 and 1.800 doing the grunt work.

So I guess my fronts are getting 1.25x and the sub will be getting 2x. I can't wait until the fibreglassing is done so I can listen to this new sub pound!
