Hey guys and gals, Just loking at possibly buying a new car, saw a gorgeous spicy orange Mazdaspeed the other day, what can anyone tell me about it??
1. It seems to require premium gas, why? and is it that important?
2. Sound deadening? Does it have any aftermarket? Or am I gonna have to "go it alone"?
3. What prices have you seen/ payed? I need full amounts with taxes and interest rates.. thanks.

It is a Protege with a bunch of go, stop and turn fast parts from Mazdaspeed (in-house purveyor of performance goodies). It has engine enhancments (turbo I think), suspension enhancments and exterior and interior mods. Nice little car by all accounts. The Proteges handle very nicely and this one is supposed to surpass the regular stockers.
1. If a manufacturer recommends a higher octane fuel it is due to how long the fuel needs to burn. If the wrong fuel is put into the sytem it will either burn too long or too short causing problems. Generally higher compressionengines require higher octane fuel. And yes, it is important to stick to the manufacturers specs.
2. All cars have a degree of factory sound deadening. I don't believe the Protege has any more/less than most vehicles, so for a high end system you will most likely need to put in some of your own.
3. Didn't buy one, don't know.

they look like sweet cars. as for stereo they come with 7 kenwood speakers(including a "large trunk mounted subwoofer" according to motor trend, but they didn't specify how big) and a KDC MP919 deck. but you would still probably have to do some sound deadening depending on how big a system you want to have. performance wise it is turbocharged, with 170hp and 160 lb/ft torque. I think it would be a lot of fun to drive.

My brother just got one. To me it handles like a go-cart, but I drive a large car. The eight inch sub is weak, even for my factory systems 6x9s.
The engine is very loud in the car but it has a new cold air intake on it. He is having alot of fun with it. I think all in it was $33000 but I don't remember.
Apperently he was lucky because he got to test drive it, I think most of them are pre-order cars. If you wait till next year the car will come in black as well.

yeah I say go with a 6, it's $32,000 for the top of the line with a few extras on top of that and it has more hp on it( 220 hp ) plus if you wanted more hp on it you could just strap on a turbocharger, and you still would have 1000 for bult a sweet audio system on it...but thats what I would do.

Well, took it out for a test drive today.. it didn't really blow me away.. the Kenwood system didn't sound to shabby for a stock system. It rode a little like my Sonoma ZQ8 sport suspension, stiff and sensitive to the littlest bumps on the road. The turbo was sweet, it reminded me of my old (less powerful) Turbo sprint. I like the fact that it is a limited edition (only 250 in Canada) and that it has all the add-ons. I would be swapping out the sound system for a dvd nav and PS2.. so that would be nice. I need the back seat space and the trunk aspect would be nice too. Talking quickly with the dealer, he quoted me $26,995 the $925 freight. .which is what I have heard as the standard price.. cha-ching! Time to sit and budget!
Dave Mackinnon, help me out!! Tell me about this car!!
