I have 6.5 midbass in my door and I still have to set my HPF to my sub at about 100HZ to get good transition from low frequencies of the sub to the midbas/midranges. If I lower the sub HPF and the midbass LPF the mids are just too quiet below 100. I always assumed that with good mibass I could get away with 60 and up and keep the sub below 60 to reduce the directional sound coming from the back of the car.

Anyone else have similar experience? Maybe getting good bass below 100 is just not feasible from the front dorrs without sticking a pair of 8inch drivers in them. What do you guys (and girls) think?

have you thought about going 3-way?with a dedicated midbass, midrange, and tweeter? rather than a dual duty midbass/rage driver?

regards, Mark

I have a threeway set-up. 6.5 midbass, 5.25 midrange and tweet. Midbass puts put 100-400, and midrange tweet 400 and up.

then you might want to look into a 7" seas driver, or a 8" sub possibly...

I think you only need them if you are an SQ person who believes that all the sound should emanate in front of you. For me it's not important, as I rarely go to concerts where there are no rear speakers. It all depends on your likes and if you compete. I think the current trend is for all sound to come from up front in SQ. I don't compete, so it's not a problem. Secondly, is it feasible to do it in the car for a reasonable amount and properly?

I have a 3-way front stage mounted in my kick panels, with 7" B&W drivers as my midbass. I also have an 8" sub in a ported box on the transmission tunnel of my truck (regular cab), so everything is in front of me. I find that a 12 dB slope at 50 Hz isn't enough for the 8 to be too boomy and overpower the 7s. I have to use both my 4-way electronic xover and the amps built-in xover to get the sound I want. I'm suprised you can stand haveing a setting of 100 on your sub low-pass. But then your sub probably isn't sitting about 3-ft from your ears though as mine is.

crossing over at 100hz 12db/octave... your sub should not be playing anything directional unless you have some nasty harmonics going on...

^^ same with me. When I compete my crossover is set at 36Hz. I still have enough midbass for most people. But I will be adding a dedicated midbass woofer up front next season (currently using a 2-way system).
