For the last year ive been running Hertz mlk 165s , and they do seem to get loud and reasonably clear with maybe 50 rms to each , but 3 of them have split away from the cone , im guessing from over exscursion, they are supposed to take 150 rms, and im quite sure theyve never seen that.Not sure if its the type of music i listen to maybe or not , but id like to find a set of mids that can take a pounding . Was wondering if anyone has heard good things about F#1 or any other mids that you guys might recomend . i have some Focal tweets and dd woofers to go with .

Sounds like user error to me. My bet is you will encounter problems with whatever you switch to.

Basically you are most likely doing 2 things wrong.

-Not high-passing your component. How much power a speaker can take really depends on what you are making it play. Basically 150watts full range and it will blow. Xover it at 500hz and you could probably give it way more then 150 watts. The usual xover point is 80hz.

-You are clipping your amplifier as you want it to play louder then it can. A clipped amplifier can burst power over twice it's rating. It can and often causes speakers to get damaged.

I am running a pair of JBL p650c's.. I have been bagging on them for about 6 months now.. I have not had any problems with them... I am running 150 watts RMS on them with the gains turned down. I have my crossover point at about 50hz. And I am vary happy with them.... I hope that you can find something that will make you equally as happy.. Happy Hunting.. lol

I also am going to recommend a larger amplifier as that is what is appearing to be the root cause of your problem. If you are clipping the hell out of the amplifier, it is going to make the cone flap in the breeze worse than a fat guy farting. Set your gain properly to start, use the system properly second. If you want louder, a bigger amp. Speaker upgrade, Morel. Morel Loudspeakers

Yeah Clipping your amp is a vary bad thing.... I had to learn that the hard way.. I blew many subs in my day from clipping amps... But I seen a first the other day. This one guy that I know just lit his sub on fire from clipping his amp.

If you set your gain properly you can run alot of power before wrecking thing.. You just need to know the limits of you equipment.

Yes what you are all saying makes sense, Pato set the crossovers and the gains for me, and i figured unless i was hearing distortion that every thing was good. i play my music quite loud and on some songs the mids go like apeshit .So i thought that i just need stronger mids.The amp powering them is a exile 800.4
In order to fix this problem a bigger amp and cleaner signal would be the best?

The best way to set your amps is with a old school millimeter. You can set your gains almost exactly the same.. The digital meters jump around to much... It's not a exact science but it will be dam close.

Keep your Hertz Mille. Find 2 ch powerful amp (2x150watt rms). try look for warm amp.
You will surprise that Hertz Mille is Really 'TOP END' speaker.

I've heard only Hertz and Morel lol, and both sound AMAZING. Better than anything I've ever heard. The better morel's are like $1400 for a 6.5"/tweet/xover. DD audio has 6.5" mids.
