Minidisc player using a tape adapter....
Hey, my bro has a Sony minidisc portable player that he wants to play in his truck. He has a tape deck, but it has no Aux line in, anyone know how much the tape adapter kits you can get to run a discman through the tape player degrade the SQ? Also, if he got some sort of FM mod adapter, not sure if Sony makes one, could he run the Minidisc in that way? Thanks....
The SQ will always depend on the quality of the tape deck (i.e. its frequency response and the S/N ratio).
You can use an FM MOD but you will be limited by its frequency response (Approx. 40-15000Hz).
The best way use the MD is hook it up through the CD Changer input (if the deck has one).

I'm thinking an FM mod will be better in freq response than a cassette adaptor.
There are two types of FM mods: one that is all plug in, ie you plug it inline with your antenna lead and it has an RCA or minijack input. Run about $50. The other one is actually a little battery powered FM transmitter and you tune your radio to. Not a bad option if you want to use it for more than in a car. Costs about $40.

Thanks for all the ideas people. Hey Mqqball, his deck has CD Changer controls, he tried to run the MD in through there, but it does not have an AUX function on the deck. Sounds like an EQ might be the way to go, thanks PerryB, and DUKK too....

What kinda deck? Some, like Pioneer, require you to buy an adaptor for the changer input.

On a little side note...I'm going to do the same thing with my brothers MD but instead of going through the Changer input, I'm going to plug it into my D/A converter via Toslink...
