More subs/higher power sub?

I currently have an RF Punch stage 3 D2(500W rms) 12" powered by an Audioque 1200 at 4 ohms. I want more bass but don't have room for a bigger amp, or a bigger box so that pretty much rules out more subs.
My amp wil do close to 1200w at 1ohm and I have the electrical to back it up, wondering if a 12" with about 1K rms would be the way to go??
I HATE building boxes so have no plans to do anything advanced like a bandpass.
Thoughts?

A sub that can handle about 1000 watts getting fed 1000-1200 should be louder. And 2 subs getting fed 500 each should be louder than 1 sub getting 1000 assuming you are using the same sub, not that it really matters since you dont want to build a new box. Is your box ported or sealed?

It's ported.
Not only is trunk a terrible design (torsion rods under the rear deck mean box height is artificially restricted) but my RF sub is a D2. 2 D2's can't make a 1 ohm load so I'd have to buy 2 new subs.
I was thinking a single 15" but that height kills me, and the box volume is a killer. I know, I know- you can't have it all.
Maybe a pair of 500'ish 12" D1's would work in a little smaller box? Hmm.

2 tens in the right box would be louder than 2 12's in a box that is too small. But you could also try a single 12 D2 and wire it to 1 ohm. Maybe an FI Q, SSA Icon, DC level 3 or 4. Or a sundown sa or skar vvx, which are only rated at 600, but i have seen many youtube vids of them getting over 1000 daily.

I have a single 12 skar coming to me in about a week that I plan on running about 1000w to, so I will find out if they can actually take it.

I'd love to hear how that works. I'm worried about DC customer support; it sounds like they're too bust for their own good but I love the Level 3/4/XL stuff. Wasn't sure about the Sundown SA; my sub is rated for 500w so why not wire it for 1ohm and see what happens? With no clipping I might be surprised. I've never had the opportunity to hear any SSA, DD, Fi or Skar product.

Audioque 1200 at 4 ohms
1000watts @ 1ohm = ~300watts @ 4ohms

A woofer change may be in order to maximize the power output from your amp.

wait wait wait - I just re-read your last post:

2 D2's can't make a 1 ohm load
Two 2ohm coils in parallel IS how you make a 1ohm load... What did you think it would give you?

I think he meant 2 D2 subs

Correct, grasshopper. If I run a pair of subs they need to be D1 or D4 to get a final 1 ohm load.

The Audioque 1200 is just the model name. It does 510X1 @ 4 ohm, 870X1 @ 2 ohm and 1200X1 @1 ohm (14.4V)
I run pretty consistently at 14.2V with my voltage meter dmm'd against sub amp voltage, at idle :-)
