Does anyone have this amp lying around?
I have one and its got 3 burnt out parts. I cannot identify 2 of them. Can someone help me identify these parts. Seahag, |
MTX 2160, very nice amp. I would love to help you fix that baby. Are you going to repair it yourself, and are just trying to identify the part numbers?
|
I took some ok pics with my camera. i will need to scan them when i get them developed.
I will definately fix it myself. I can`t identify a cap and a diode. they are near the power supply Do you have this amp? Seahag |
Kyle works for SCL (the Canadian MTX distributor) so he can probably find out.

DOH. (_8^()
I didnt see his signature. My luck huh! any way. 3 items. - 16 pin TL494CN (burnt and cracked) - C9 is not even there. - 1 diode is split in half near those 2 other burnt out parts (its the only one near the transformer and the 16 pin chip Thanks. |
If someone here is good at fixing MTX amps cheap then I've got a 4320 that needs to be fixed if someone can help me out. It's just sitting in my garage but I don't think it's too bad.

the chip looks like you modulator chip usually mtx uses a upc-494 or a tl-494
and i would say that probably indicates your power supply and maybe one or both of outputs are probably poofed to they usually use buz-11 for there power supplys and outputs [ June 12, 2003, 08:32 PM: Message edited by: pinhead ] |
Bux-11?
I know what the chip is. but why is it fried? people are suggesting the power transistors, But they look fine. |
the reason is fried could be one of many
either one of the channels went taking out your power supply or your power supply fried on its own the tl494 usually driver two transistor which then in turn switch your power supply transistors the buz-11 is a transistor which is commonly used in the older mtx amps for the power supply as well as your outputs alot of times when one part fails its a domino affect taking out parts further up |
I thought the output transistors were far removed from the power supply.
How can an output transistor fry the power supply? BTW the powersupply transistors have P50N06 and the out puts are 50N06v [ June 13, 2003, 07:23 AM: Message edited by: Seahag ] |
if your output transistors fry they short out and draw excess power from the power supply and then the power supply goes poof
your outputs power comes from the power supply |
ends up that a power supply transistor was fried.
all is good Thanks for everyones help. |
