MTX Audio Sound System
Your Opinion on a MTX Audio Sound System
What does everyone think of MTX Audio's quality of sound and affordability in comparison to a set of Kickers? Specifically the 12" Kicker CompVR (CVR12) compared to the 12" MTX Thunder Squares (TS55). I would get 2 of one of the them if were to go with one or the other, I'm leaning more towards the dual sub enclosure with TS55's in it (TS5512X2D).

i have heard the square MTX's and i was impressed. off 1000rms they got loud and in the right enclosure can dig fairly low.
i have also heard the CVRs in a loaded kicker enclosure off about 700rms. it was nothing special but sounds good for the price you can get the woofers

So I think I'm gonna go with the dual sub setup in MTX's Thunder Squares but the max continuous on them is 1200W. I was looking at the MTX Jackhammer Amps but I'm not sure which one(s) I would have to go with. I was looking at the JH1200's but they're a bit pricey.. I'm just starting to learn this stuff too, and thanks for the help from both of you two!
The Kicker model you're referring to is 400rms, if I'm not mistaken ... and the MTX is 600rms ... you're going to get different sounds from both.
Personally, after owning MTX and Kicker, I'd go with the Kicker equipment since its never let me down but that MTX is a newer model so who knows.
You should be looking at the Kicker L5 for 600rms before you say CVR, just the wrong area altogether.

OH BUDDY ... let me save you some money and tell you that box is complete .
I'm practically the distributor of that box and I can tell you they are complete crap. The back is so damn thin that the entire thing just blows up on you. Not to mention the cheap glue that MTX uses on those boxes. I've had to put nails in all of those boxes just to keep them together. It's complete crap. Don't waste your money on that box.

My friend has a Kicker L7 in his truck and it's pretty darn loud, I was looking at the MTX TS5512X2D's because I could probably get a deal on it so yeah.

You should go to a store and see them or hear them ... I mean, you're not going to hear a difference in the store IMO but at least you can see them at work.
The MTX subs you should be able to get at a better price but I would put Kicker's quality over MTX's slightly (in those models) ... the Kicker boxes aren't the end all either, but there much better than those things you're looking at.
And by "custom box", I hope that doesn't mean something from the store. If you can get the subs at a good price, I would do it and try to keep $100 aside for someone to make you a box. You should be able to find someone on here or maybe you'll find someone who knows what they're talking about online. Well worth the money if they do a good job.
If you can get the whole MTX package and its within your budget, go for it. But I just want to warn you ahead of time about those shitty boxes, because I've had several break on me, from simply having it rest on its side or taking it in and out of my trunk. If it happens, you can get around it (screws, glue) but if you can find a better product, I'd say go for that.
Depends on the car as well, it might not take very much to get it loud ... or, if you're putting it in a sedan and you want a lot of bass, then it might take a lot.
I use to run 2 Kicker CVR's off a 850watt Kenwood amp (at 2 ohms) and it was plenty loud ... louder than the guys who spent $400 on 2 mtx subs in that crappy box with a $300-400 600-watt MTX amp.
