My New Setup...am I doing it right?

Hey, I really like SQ, and dont care so much about SPL, My car is a Mazda 3 and here is my current setup:

Stock Headunit >> JL e6450 Amplifier (6ch - 450W total) >>

JL XR650 Components
JL TR600 Coaxials
JL w1v2 10” Subwoofer / JL Sealed Box

New Setup
Alpine IVA-W200 Head Unit >> Alpine PXA-H701 Processor

>>> JL 500/1 Amp >> JL w1v2 10” Subwoofer / JL Sealed Box (A bit Overkill?)
>> 1 Farad Cap
>>> JL 300/4 Amp >> JL XR650 Components / JL TR600 Coaxials

With - Innovatek 2x 8" LCD Headrests

I dont know very much about car audio, im very new here, so what do you guys think about my setup? Should I head in a different direction for better SQ, is there something lacking in my system?

Reason for the small sub is that it isnt very deep at all and has a small footprint, I have a Sedan and trunk space is very important... so Im not sure what I am going to do about that!

Thanks for any advice

Thumbs up

Nothing wrong with the equipment list, if it's installed well it should sound great....

If it sounds to you like it's lacking in bass, putting that driver in a ported box will make a substantial difference in the bottom end.

If you are happy with what you hear, does it matter what we think?

If you are going to compete in SQ comps then yeah, go to a competition and listen to some of the setups there, gain some knowledge, and find out if you are lacking somewhere in your system, besides it's a good time!

that jl 500/1 is a bit much on a w1v2 10" , that subs rated at 150 watts , but if your gonna use that sub and you want jl amps I would go with the jl 250/1 , it's plenty more power than you need for that sub and alot less $ .

Consider the new Eclipse XA series of amps as well. Full range class D ICEpower amps, XA4000 is 125w rms x 4 (4ohm)and the XA1000 is 480w rms x 1 (2ohm). Having sold both amps, I prefer the Eclipse by far. They will run longer and cooler than the smaller JL amps. If this power is a bit much, the 5 channel XA5000 is a perfect balance of power between front / rear and subwoofer. It is hands down the choice I make for a customer who is interested in getting respectable volume levels with good speakers to ensure a highly predicatable outcome. It has never let me down once, in any incarnation of the 5 channel amps that Eclipse has made.

I would probably redesign the box as well, get a ported design to maximize the abilities of the amp and the sub.

a single 10 will have a good clean sound but with that amp i would reccomend getting 2 10's... i know it seems of more of an spl idea but 2 10's will not need to be turnned up as loud... letting th alternator get a rest and keeping your ampfrom hitting distorting levels
