Most people that really like rock usually like 10's or 12's in sealed boxes. That combination gives the clarity and kick your probably looking for.
Ported boxes will give you more output but don't have the clarity of the sealed ones.
What is your buget?
That will help determine how much and what kind of equipment you need.

I cannot believe this BS still floats around the net. lame-o

Anyways.. in a 91 S-10 there is room in the bottom of the doors for a 6.5" mid (or 2 if you're determined) but you have to do some custom work to get them in. The dash takes a 4x6. If you want loud decent sound, get a good coaxial of each up front - the 4x6's on their own are kind of weak. If you want better sound overall, buy a 6.5" component set for the front and amplify it.

For bass, it all depends on how much room you want to lose cuz there's no where to hide it. A single 10 or 12 satisfies most people.
