My OZ's wont fit in the WRX! What can i do??
Hey guys,
Need more help. I took the 04 wrx in to chase to get the oz 180cs's installed theses are 6.5" components. Anyway he said they wont fit even with spacers.
I was wondering if i can use a different mid.
Can i go buy another mid that will handle the same crossover point and use it.
Or what other options do i have.
Any help is appreciatd.
thanks.
bran.

Would kick panels be an option?

They don't fit because of their mounting diameter, or because of rear clearance / interference with door glass?
Generally, both can be solved with spacers, although you can narrow up your soundstage a bit.. but not a concern for casual listeners, forget I mentioned it.
You'll no doubt be best off using the mid that came with the comp set, because it's passive Xover was optimized for use with that woofer...
While it might be simply a crossover point thing (and most really are), it might also compensate for a difference in efficiency between the mid and tweet - which unfortunately isn't something you can just shop for, and might end up with a completely tonally different (too bright, too dull) sounding set - forcing you to either live with it or construct your own L-pads. It might also even compensate for the axial response of the mid and tweet - how they respond when listened to on-axis compared to off-axis.
That's not to say you can't get a different mid if you are truly stuck, one that fits your stock location - but I'd truly explore all my options before trying to find one.
And I really really really hesitate to trust what someone else tells me (particularly if I didn't buy my stuff from them
)... have you taken the door apart yourself, and tried to actually make spacers?
What exactly is the issue with making spacers (pardon my unfamiliarity with WRX doors)?

Well, kicks are gonna be costly unless i do them myself and the car is also a manual, and i dont have to much space in there for it. Also i seem to use the dead pedal alot.
The problem with the wrx is there is not much space between where the speaker would sit and the glass. Spacers need to be put it, but chase was saying that even with spacers they would hit the door skin, when u try and put them on.
I have yet to confirm this myself, and i will on tuesday. But right now i trust chase, and have to look into my other options.
Anyone know the mounting depth on a Koda mids?

Well i am not willing to modify my car yet.
Its only 4 months old!
But i would really like some suggestions on Mids that i could use instead of the oz's.

There's a difference between not being able to afford kicks and looking for an alternative to kicks. I think he's looking for options right now.
There is not much room for kicks in a dead-pedal lovin' owner's MT WRX especially if the woofer is as deep as 2.75". I think that's about as deep as you can get into a WRX without modifying the stock panels. Many also use a few washers to offset the window track by up to 1/2" at the bottom where the speakers are. When you're done, slam the door a few times with the window fully rolled down to make sure the backside of your woofer magnets don't traumatize your window and/or your tint, if you have one that is.

They have plenty of reworked door panels in there if you can get that search facility to work well for you.
Dave MacKinnon might be a good resource to talk to... he has a Rex as well.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I will look into trying to get speakers in there.
but if i have to modify anything permenantly then i would rather look for a different mid.
ps: I kinda like the car, but if all else fails i will consider selling it, for something else.
he he. ya right.
