Need Advice on amp for SOLOBARIC's
Thanks for the replies guys. (and the link dima, that's a good read)
Ive been leaing towards the 2x10", after doing some research into underpowering I'm not too concern about damaging the subs (as you can hear if the amps cliping the siginal) and seeing as the subs power rating matches up very nicely to that of the amp i'll be getting upgrading to two x600 amps would be a worthwhile option, where as if I get the 8" 2 amps would have excessive power which could potentialy damage the subs in a ported box (I dont fully understand why running subs at frequencies lower than freq that the port is tuned to damages them, but apparently its well documented).
Another legitimate concern is the size of the box needed. 2x8" will probably require every bit of space in my trunk for a well tuned ported enclosure, and my trunk may simply be too small for an ideal box for 10"s.
Does anyone know where I can find spec's for this equipment (l7' subs and PG amps)? If I can find out percisly how much volume the subs want, more percise ratings for the amp (600rms @1-4ohm doesnt seem right, too vague), I can figure out what sized subs and what ohm voicecoils to get.
Thanks for the help guys

Thanks for the input (and the links) guys.
I just noticed I can get a kicker zx750.1 amp for about $50 more than the PG x600.
Ive been talking to a friend who does all the stereo installation and box making for alot of my buddies, he made a box for and installed a set of 8" L7's (said theyre amazing), he uses some fancy software to calculate the volume and port measurments for the box, and he ended up using 2.25 cu ft per sub (which is what kicker.com recomends for the 10" l7).
I drive a 96 suzuki esteem, its a small 4 door. I think the 8" subs would best utilize the space in my trunk, and according to my friend the 2x8" with an idealy tuned ported box would sound better than the 2x10" which would be in a less than ideal box. He also recomended the 2 smaller speakers over one large one because it would be snappier and more responsive (I think thats what he said).
Regarding the impedence of the voice coils, if I get 2 subs I think I should get the 2ohm voice coils so I can run them as a 2ohm circut on a monoblock amp? Does it make a differnce if you hook the voice coils in parallel and the subs in series, or viceversa? Or is it only the total impedence that matters?
If I get a large single sub, which has an rms rating that exceeds the amp, would I want to run it at 1,2 or 4 ohms? (for instance the 750rms 12" on the x600 amp which is rated at 600rms@1-4ohm)

Do 1 12" l7d4 and the 800 watt amp it will run very efficently and it wont take more money to upgrade and have to sell the old amp for a new one when 800 isnt enough to run 2 10" l7's also look into CVX as they are more for SQ but still rattle the head.

You can look here for all the options...

to be honest ive been one of the only guys that I know of that used solos for comp . at least on this forum and I did well but you have to load those things full of power. I was runnin 2 kicker 1200.1 amp straped loud ya it was loud . personally I dont think 800 watts is gonna do it your gonna feel like theres something missing and that would be about another 800 watts If you were to run one solo it would sound good I just feel you would be under powering the driver which could result in damaging your amp . thats my 2 cents.
