Need help selecting components for 09 escape?

I need some help here picking a set of components for my 09 ford escape. I want something to sound way better then the stock speakers in the front door. I will be using a amp and found some of these speakers being price as a issue: Has any one used any and can give some expertise? Want something better then stock using amp and stock head, with good bass as well , not putting in sub.

PIONEER TS-C130R
pioneer tsd720c
INFINITY REFERENCE 5020CS

Any thoughts would be great. Want to stay under 160 canadian shipped.

Some of the speakers you are looking at are no longer produced or are below CDN dealer cost. To me this says that you have been shopping on the US e-tailer sites for info and pricing before you found a great CDN site. In your vehicle if it takes a 5x7" speaker as the stock size, that is what I would replace it with if or a slightly larger 6x8" if you are not using a sub at all. Add some sound deadener as your door is a rattle can and will rob all sorts of bass response from your speakers. Sadly though, your budget is a little on the low side to solve your problems properly.

the stock speakers are 6x8 but what's the point putting them back in when alot of people have been putting in 6.5 components no problem with a amp?

yea I would go with a 6.5 " comp and make it fit into the door.. lots of guides on how to make adapter rings, etc.

I believe the suggestion to put in upgraded 6x8's was if you weren't planning on adding a subwoofer as this would provide a better midbass compared to the 6.5"s. I may be wrong, and if so, then I'm sure Rob will correct me with what he was talking about

^^^^ You are exactly right. Why put in a speaker with a smaller cone area and minimize the response? Just because alot of people do something does not mean that the application is the same. You stated that you are not going to be using a sub, the other people who are putting in components, well, they are more that likely going to be using a sub. Your best bet is to use as large a coax as you can fit in there and use an amp to power them and add some deadener to keep things quiet to maximize the bass response. A recommendation on a solid set of speakers for this, the Eclipse SE8385 but they are going to be above your budget at the same time. Do this once and do it right.

I am also doing a 09 Escape with no plans for a subwoofer at this time. This is a company car that I will have for a few years, then I will have to take the components out to replace in the next vehicle. Thus, I am not going to sink a fortune into it. I recently gave my Alpine HU and speakers to my son, so I am in the market for new equipment. I have done this many times over the years, but now find myself having to purchase new equipment. I have never used sound deadening material before. What would be the proper placement for this in the door area? And why would you recommend the Eclipse SE8385? I know nothing about them, and am just curious. I see they are discontinued...

The distributor still has them in their stock at this time, so yes they are a continued discontinued model as of now. Why I recommend these speakers is simple. They perform good and they sound good. They are great value for the $.

thanks, but what about the sound deadening part? Should it go behind the speakers against the inside of the outer door panel, or should I build some type of enclosure mounted at the rear of the speaker itself to fully stop the sound from the magnet back to the door?

No to the enclosure, give the speakers as much volume as they can get. Ideally both panels want to be deadened, the inside of the outer door skin is a big metal gong. The inner skin is full of holes that will allow air to leak out. Seal the inner skin as best you can.
