Need Help Selecting a System

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege. Rears are 6x9 and fronts are 6x8.

I was intending on purchasing a system from www.onlinecarstereo.com

I'm just not sure how to coordinate the amp & deck and speakers. I've been reading up on RMS output and maximum Watts, but some websites say the speakers can be below the Max or RMS output of the deck/amp and others suggest the speakers should be rated higher than the maximum Watts or RMS output. I'm confused.

Here's what i was thinking of purchasing:

Deck - Pioneer DEH2900MP
Front speakers - Pioneer TSG6841R
Amp - Pioneer GM3300T
Rear speakers - Pioneer TSA6982R or T6972R

Any suggestions please...

Allison

well one thing to figure out is weather or not you plan on putting everything in yourself? or if you are going to have shop install everything for you? the door speakers and the rear speakers are really just a matter of unscrewing the old ones and screwing in the new ones, but it would be good to know if you plan on installing the amp/deck yourself or not? While it is generally cheaper to buy products online you do miss out on a lot of help, advice and recommendations that a dealer can provide, not to mention alot will usually install decks for very very little money when you purchase it from them, and often if you purchase the entire system from a shop you usually get a deal on both the price of the components and installation costs. Just something to take into consideration.

Several of the members of this forum actually own or work for shops, and alot of them are in your area, It might be a good idea to look at the supporting vendors for the site and talk to a few of the companies in there this way you know you are speaking to people who will actually take the time to help you get the sound you are looking for. Most shops will work with you to try and have you get the best sound possible within your budget, and helps to develop a relationship with a shop for the future when you look into getting larger and louder as well..

The speakers you selected are okay but if you plan on adding a multi-amp in the future I suggest you don't buy those. I made the mistake now I'm paying for it.

I'm definately gonna buy the system online...for the Pioneer units I listed it would be a savings of $270.00, plus my neighbour does install for a living and can cut me a deal on install.

So basically I guess I just need to know how the amp/speaker ratings thing works so I can wisely choose a good combination. My price limit is $350.00 for amp/deck/4 speakers. I'm not into subs.

Check out the site....www.onlinecarstereo.com

Thx

well honestly the speakers you have picked out would run fine off a factory head unit... the rears could use the bit of boost from the amp but thats it.

So to answer your question, yes it will all work together and work fine, just use the amp to drive the rears, and run the fronts strait from the deck, it wont be anything spectacular by any means but it should be a good improvement over the factory stuff.

I pretty much have the same system in my Buick Regal and it actually sounds pretty good. Neighbour says it sounds like a high quality home system coming from my car...lol.

So I should get speakers that are rated above what the amp should push?? and if so...how much higher should I buy??

The amp i want is 300 Watts with a RMS of 60-150. The speakers peak handling are 300w and RMS is 40. Is this a good match though??

Still trying to get a straight answer about Watts and RMS ratings when selecting speakers and an amp or deck....

Like I said in my first post...some sites tell you to get speakers that are below what the amp/deck pushes out and some sites tell you to get speakers with a higher rating than your amp/deck...which is it?????????????????

Also...I have a 70 Mustang and don't want to put a ton of money into a system...what would one suggest? I need a deck for starters and only want to install rear speakers...any suggestions for that??

Ideally you want the rms's to be close to the same on the speakers and amps. If one needs to be higher, I usually recommend that you have a little extra power on tap because it is easy to turn a gain know down where you cant just crank a gain **** to make things louder.

As for speakers, IMHO pioneed makes some great decks, but they are a little lacking in the entry level speaker department.

Here is more what I would look at personally:

Pioneer DEH-P3900MP -$123

Phoenix Gold R5.0COMP -$55

Clarion SRR6946 -$59

Kicker 06ZX200.4 -$116

Total cost of this system: $353
