Hey guys,

I bought a very nice us amps xterminator from ebay, at least i think it's an xterminator???? The guy i bought it off said it does 100x2 @ 4ohm which is what i want so i can run my jl xr's. Upon closer inspection i noticed that the end cap says usa 100. The heat sink or metal cover is flat black with xterminator written in white w/ a small notation below it that says "made by us amps" Is this a 100x or is it really a usa 100? There is no built in crossover, no rca out. The us amps site says the 99 model year 100x has a crossover. This amp looks the same but the end cap is different w/ the usa100. Does this amp only do 50x2 like the usa100 @4ohm or is it a 100x since the heatsink says "xterminator"???

You likely got gyped. I have a feeling it's a USA-100HC. I'm rather convinced in assuming that the LPF's were an added/optional feature, and that the amps without crossovers were built for pure competition use only.
My VLX 25 does not have any crossovers, and it doesn't list that there are any on the VLX 25 and USA 100HC white papers.
It wouldn't be a USA-100, because those amps have a crossover network for sure.
From what I see the 400X doesn't have the crossover network either. I hope I'm not confusing you.
Likely it is a 100HC. Do you see 2 torroidal transformers on the bottom? How long is the amp?

On second thought, it still may be a 400X. The end caps are interchangeable after all.

Thanks for the reply. By tyrodial transformers do you mean the cylyindrical thing with wire wrapped around it? If so, it's only got one and it's 1 and 1/4" or thereabouts: large toonie. The length is approx. 12" by 9" wide. Like i said the heat sink is flat black w/ xterminator written accross it. The seller said it was a 100x, but the us amps site says the 100x has a crossover and rca out. The seller said he used it in a competition vehicle and had 3 of them. I need to know if this thing is going to work for my jl xr 6.5's? Want to push the 100x2 to them. If it's a 100hc @ 4ohm's they won't be seeing anything. Only paid about $150 Can. for it though.

Maybe this was one of the first xterminator amps introduced back in 96 or 97? It looks like the newer one's without the crossover.

Now where did I get to thinking that originally it was an xterminator 400x? Please shoot me, I'm on crack.
They'll power your xr's nice. Hey, if you could, buy a second one and bridge one for left and one for right. Lol that would be nice.

The difference between the two would be half the power for just the standard 100 over the 100x.
The spec for the 100 and 100x both show they should have crossovers on them. Possibly it had been manufactured with competition in mind so that might be why it is full range.

Well, got a reply from the seller. He says the amp is a 1997 us amps xterminator 100x. IT does 100x2 @ 4ohms and 365 bridged @ 4ohm. Because it's an older version he said it didn't have a crossover. He also mentioned that he's seen these amps being run in 2ohm mono but they get hot. I'm happy if it's the 100x2 for my jl xr's.

Ok, I see. Good deal, man. You likely would be running it 4 ohm stereo, so it'll stay cool. That figures why my VLX doesn't have an x-over or any added stuff, could be an older model. At 1 ohm mono it's cold as a rock.

US Amps run hot while the power is going through um, when your workin um(class a/b). Awsome amps, my 2000x's are rated stable @ 4ohms mono, but i've been running them @ 2.5ohms mono, and they get hot enough to literally cook on, but don't go into SAT protection. They are also under-rated so expect more power than rated. Sounds like u got a good deal.
