Need some help choosing a sub...

Hey guys,

So I need some help picking out a few things.. I dont know much about sound systems.

Right now I have an 06 RSX type S, it comes with a bose system. I'm going to leave the speakers alone for now, but what I want to get is a new deck, amp, and one sub.

I dont need any help with the deck, but I need to know what type of sub I should be looking for. I'm going to be putting it in the corner of my hatch... heres a picture of what a person has done in the same car, except I just want one sub.. and ill probably put the amp somewhere else.

I will also need the enclosure. So I am willing to spend $600 on the amp, box, and sub.
What could I get? I just want one single 10", good quality. Mostly listen to rap.

Not sure if Rob (MR2NR) is still taking orders. He has a clearance sale going on with some great deals. I would think he can get you hooked up with something. Maybe send him a PM (click).

I have a clearout on a top notch 10" right now. Finding an amp to power it though in the price range, might be a little difficult. In all cases I would recommend that you build the box to the the needs of both the sub and the car. If it is just the addition of respectable bass you are after, then I have solutions for you here as well. HST comes into effect here in 2 days, if you purchase right away it is going to save you some $ and you can pick up on the deals that I have as well.

If you are not in a hurry to install the equipment, I will bring it to Calgary with me when I move out there next week. No charge on the shipping that way.

If I go into the big nasty surprise that you are looking for it is going to land over the $600 mark I hate to say. Here is the links to it. I would need to order the amp as a special order for you, the sub I have in stock.

Kenwood - XR-1S

retail on this amp is $600 CDN

ECLIPSE Subwoofers SW8200/SW8000 | Fujitsu Ten

retail on this sub is $450.00

both together would be $680 + gst and trust me you want me to bring it to you and not ship it. This sub is one heavy beyotch. The bass response is all about the box. Get the box made for what you need it to do.

That would be awesome, I'm in no rush at all.

Urgh how much would a box cost to get in a corner like that? Also could you do the install?

Another option is coming at ya here.....

DD500b Series Subwoofers - DDAudio.com | Digital Designs : Speakers Made in the USA

These guys have one primary goal in life, getting loud.

I have a final clearout on the MB Quart DSC280 which is almost a ideal match of amplifier to sub.

This package would land around the $400.00 + gst and shipping mark. This gives you some wiggle room for some front speakers if you like or to go into a larger amp that you might use to power front speakers as well.

Adding a much larger amp is a win win situation all the way around. I would ideally look to a 4 channel amp that would deliver the same amount of power roughly to the sub and then allow you to expand into proper front speakers with the power to deliver to them. This is a very good option to consider. It would land you at the $600 mark + gst and shipping.

The amp is the Eclipse class D XA4200 rated at 100w rms x 4. You will use it in 3 channel mode and throw 100w rms x 2 into the future front speakers and 400w rms x 1 into the sub. This amp has a retail of $600 on it's own. Here is a link to the amp.

Your box is going to land around the $400 mark at the minimums. It is time to do this kind of work. The box needs to hold both the subs weight and the abuse it going to dish out upon your ears. Bass response is all about the box. If it means that you must wait for a bit to get the right box, then wait. Can I do it... I can definitely do it, I have the technology to make the worlds first bionic sub box....eerrrr... I can indeed build you a box and do full install etc. but with my move to Okotoks and the new business I have bought, I highly doubt that I will have time to do it until well into August once my shop and house belongings are set to arrive.
