Need Subs, What should I Get?

Im looking for a sub but I had a few questions. Should I go for 2 12's or will just 1 be enough? Also, ported or sealed, what should I get if i want tight bass that can go low?

I say one good twelve or 2 decent twelves, i run one twelve in a small ported box and it puches but can get low, i also put it in a big box to compete, and it gets really low but doesnt punch as well, two subs may take more power to run them well as opposed to one twelve can be run fairly well on lower power. Myself one twelve will suffice.

What brand of Sub do you recommend? I was thinking about a MTX 7500 sledgehammer. Whats everyones opinion on that sub?

The new Bassworx subs are a great sub. Not too expensive, 2 year exchange warranty and lots of output with respectable tonal response. Pioneer also has some great 12" subs for you to consider, all depends on the $$$$$ you would like to spend on them.

Well I'm willing to spend $300-400 on a sub (and enclosure). Id like something that has tight bass and hits low. I'm still not quite sure if I should get 2 subs or just one, or what kind of box to go with. Any recommendations?

Take a look at Kenwood's XW line of subs. High power handling and they sound great sealed or ported (i've tried both with 2 12's) Best bang for the buck IMO. They look really good too. And I'm sure with '08 models coming out soon you can get a great deal on some 07's.

one 10 or 12" JL Audio W7 :P A little above your budget new but you could get a used one for less

Pretty tough to tell without knowing how much power and space you have...maybe I missed it.

The sub will be in the trunk of my Chrysler Sebring Sedan, which has a pretty big trunk. As for power, I'm not sure on that yet. I was going to pick out a sub and then find a amp that matched its RMS output.

Sebring's got a big trunk, go for 2 x 12's or 1x 15 and give her a kilowatt! That's what I'd do...hey that's what I did!
