no...if there are 2 dual 4ohm subs, then you can get either a 1ohm,4 ohm or 16 ohm final load. 4+4=8 ohm (series) x 2 subs= 4ohms (parallel) or 16 ohms(series).....or.....4+4=2ohms (parallel) x 2 subs= 1 ohm (parallel) or 4 ohms (series). This is what I have and I'm running them at 1ohm final. If you want a 2 ohm final load, then get either 2 x single 4ohm voice coil subs and wire them parallel, or 2 x dual 2 ohm voice coil subs and series each sub's voice coils to get a 4ohm load each and then parallel them for a final 2 ohm load. I hope that's clear...lol..

That does help quite a bit. I am going to get 2 12" DVC 4 ohm subs. If I understand you correctly, the Hifonics BXi 1606D amp should work well with the setup I plan.

definitely, the Hifonics is 1 ohm stable and should give you at least 1400-1600 watts rms if you properly supply it with power. Make sure you either get subs that can handle the power or be careful with your gain and volume controls. Should thump like hell though!!

The Hifonics website says that a 4 gauge power cable is required for this amp. I already have a 4 gauge ran to my battery from my Infinity 7541 amp. Do I need to run another power wire or can I just use a distribution box?

I'd run at least 2 guage to the distribution box then split to 4.

I have a question that I just thought about. If I'm going to have 2 12" ported subs running on about 1000 watts, wouldn't the bass be so loud that it will drown out the front speakers?

certainly can be....you'll have to learn to set it up properly, and to be a little conservative with the gain and bass control. You shouln't need to use any bass boost or bass enhancing equalizers. Even in my car, with 550 watts of mids/highs,my subwoofer amp's gain is set all the way down. Even on my Alpine processor (pxa-h701), the sub output is set to -9 dB's on the speaker set up menu, the sub control is at 0/15, and there is no bass frequencies enhanced at all, in fact there is a dip at 100 hz of -5 dB's to combat in car boominess. Your set up will be different, as all cars and systems are. If Sq is more your goal, then aim to blend the sub sonically as seemlessly into the rest of the system as possible. Remember, you can always crank up the bass knob when you want more. This is the fun (well not always) part of car audio...the tweaking!! have fun!

So if I'm listening to a song that I don't want any bass, can i turn it down using the bass knob? and vice versa?
